launching boat with motor off a dock options

No beach. all bulkhead. I use the boat about once a month and need a way to have it dry stored then get it ready to use and store it in a short amount of time. I like the ramp idea if my brother in law would let me attach it to the his dock. If you build a ramp out of 2x6s would the boat...

launching boat with motor off a dock options

Since my dropping my motor in the lake incident I am must more cautious about installing and removing my motor. Basicly I store my boat and motor on a covered deck about 2-3 ft above the water(depending on the ever changing level of lake). I used to slide the boat in and then lay the motor on...

Threw my motor in the lake

Wasn't on purpose but it sank like a rock in the 5 ft water. I jumped in and yanked it out but now what do I do? I removed the 2 plugs and pulled the start rope about 10 times then put them back in. I have it standing up in the boat house. 9.9 mercury 2 stroke. Freshwater.

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately I can't get to the carb bowl without removing the carb. These mercs dont have a ready access to the carb.

Storing outboard in winter - updated

I was wondering if the traditional method of storing outboards over the winter still apply or with the new alcohol fuels and blue sta-bil is there a new "preferred" strategy. Can you give me the "best" method to assure that when spring comes my Mercury 9.9 2 stroke will start? (fuel additive...

dropping "shroud" on 9.9 merc 2 stroke

I have a hard time getting the carb out of the motor to clean it. If I could remove the top(using the latch) then I could remove the "shroud" (thats what I am calling the "the bottom of the top"). its the base of the top that is left after you remove the top cover. I could get to the carb...

    Gummy up carb

I just had my carb rebuilt on my 9.9 Mercury 2 stroke. Ran like a top the first weekend. then I let it sit for a month and its hard to start and then dies. The mechanic told me the ethanol fuel clogs up the carbs in about a month of sitting. I cleaned the carb out and now it runs great. (the...

9.9 merc wont run unless primed

My 1980s 9.9hp 2 stroke Merc wont run unless the prime button is pulled out. Then it runs like its choked and needs to be leaned out. but if I push the prime knob in then it dies . I tried to run it last weekend after sitting for 3 months. It ran great the last time. But this time it...

Stiffening a boat to make it more stable

Does stiffening up a jon boat but adding a floor make it any more stable? Of course if you had a plywood floor then you are talking about more weight. Does weight carry into the equation of stability? I was thinking of just adding a low pedistal seat 6" rise (for my leg/knee pain) but its so...

How much mod will my 14' flat bottom jon take?

Its the old narrow one. I have a 9.9 mercury pushing it. I am concerned about weight and stability. I dont know where to start? Do I weigh all the materials and compare to the specs of the boat?
