I assume the tracker 1648 has a 20" transom and the Merc motor is a long shaft (20")? If the motor is anything like the 15-30 HP Suzuki, the long shaft motor is actually 21.5" so you may be below the bottom of the boat by a couple inches. If your motor is the short shaft (15") on a 20"...

I joined this forum just recently as well. Fishing the flats of Terra Ceia / Tampa Bays in a custom Tracker Grizzly. If the bays around the Skyway Bridge are calm, I fish the rock piles for grouper and whatever. Still learning to fish down here. Coming from New England, fishing is different...

I do. Even at 14' it helps keep it aligned motoring onto the trailer in the wind or current. I suppose the side boards would work as well.
