    wear your PFD!!!!!

While PFD's are important when the weather and/or vessel requires the use. It's just as important that people learn to swim to lessen the degree of panic. PFD's can fail and not all being used are self righting.

    Bilge pump options

I picked up a attwood waterbuster portable bilge pump from Cabela's (runs on batteries) about three years ago when taking my brothers smaller jon out fishing and I use it in my boat as a backup and to empty and fill my portable livewell.

What good is a spare if you don't have a jack to change it?

+1 Always was a fan of floor jacks and breaker bars along with some scrap boards, makes changing flats fast and less time consuming.

What size TM do you run?

I run a 45 pound Minn Kotas on my 16'Lowe. I've had no problems with this being enough power for me, so a 55 pound should serve you easily.

    Range?

Running full throttle I use about 1 gallon every hour and about 2/3 gallon running at 3/4 throttle. My best full mileage on my 76 9.9 w/15hp carb seems to be running between 1/2 to 3/4 throttle pushing my 16' jon. Best bet is for the first couple of runs keep a small extra portable gas can for...

IL Toll Roads people hate fisherman

If you got time you might want to check out the state routes to bypass the tolls. Driving a semi if I had time I would always run the state routes to bypass the ill tollways to save on operating expenses. It's a good way to see the country again by getting off the interstates.

vibration in a brand new 20 HP Tohatsu

Nice to hear that she's smoothed out. I'm with you on the electric start, nothing like hitting a button and you're off to the next fishing hole.

vibration in a brand new 20 HP Tohatsu

I run a 2008 Nissan 18hp fourstroke and she's runs very quite and smooth. No vibrations at all from day one to year four. I followed the breaking procedures to a T. Best bet is to take it to a dealer if you've followed all the breakin procedures and have the correct lube and oil levels and...

Is there something I haven't considered?

I've got a buddy that carry's a portable boat on the side of his camper. He runs a has a small 9.8hp on the back, uses it down at lake shelbyville here in Illinois. It's a nice size lake. Both his wife and him handle the choppy waters with no problem when the wind picks up. If I run across a...

what size engine for a 1648 MV?

I'd get the biggest engine that you can afford, that being said the biggest i could afford was a Nissan 18hp fourstroke electric start (at the time they were marked down). This is the same is the size motor of the Tohatsu 20hp (same size/weight). I have no problem with my 18 hp Nissan putting...

Taken care of older pfd's are great. Mine from the early 90's still in good condition, pull it out a couple of times of years to wear while fishing. Good conversation piece.

    toho-rig livewell

The Toho-Rig Livewell I've had for the last two years has been great it's either in one of the boats or the back of my pickup. I replaced the straps with rope handles to make it easier to move. I've not had a problem with the fish staying alive all day in mine. I use a attwood waterbuster...
