Good info! How do you clean the inside of the tank and do you use an internal sealant? I've watched a vid of a motorcycle tank being done but it seems like a lotta steps. I have a metal Tohatsu tank that doesn't leak, very light spotty internal rust I'd like to rebadge into a Johnson.
You didn't say v hull or jon. For a v hull take a look at one of these. Helps to get weight forward. Moeller 6 gal bow tank. I have a '80 Johnson 15hp on a 14' and no problem with that long fuel line run.
Haven't bought one yet, but I think this would be a cool strap it in when you need it cooler/seat. https://www.amazon.com/Wise-Outdoors-Hunting-Insulated-Cooler/dp/B00EI57F5Q
I bought a pair of these oarlock holders https://www.walmart.com/ip/Scotty-Rod-Holder-Oarlock-Mount/33982499 . Very easy and plenty sturdy. Any Scotty or Cabelas/Basspro rodholder fits. Just because you never know what or how big a fish can hit the trollers, I attached a kayak style rod leash...
Nice find! Take a good look at the wood inside the transom. That riser bolted on could just be a big band-aid. Is the motor a 4 stroke and what hp? Make sure the transom is supported by the bunks. Have fun modifying to your liking!
Did you solve the spray problem? Do you have enough bite for the clamps on the transom with up to a 1" spacer on top of it? Try that. If not look at the replacement poly motor boards for kicker brackets, their thickness gives you a 2" setback. I was lucky enough to find a used Garelick bracket...
I'm gonna follow this thread. I have a '80 15hp Johnson on a 14' v hull. Your load #'s are very close to where I am with 2ppl and gear. I have the stock 9 1/4 X 10 and can get 19.3kts solo but only 14.7kts with a 200lb passenger. I have another stock prop that I can take to a local prop shop...
I was able to get this used at a real good price from a salvage co. on this. https://www.go2marine.com/product/204419F/garelick-mounting-pads-for-ob-kicker-brackets-poly-board-only.html. It's the larger of the two pictured. My Johnson 15 is a short shaft and was way too low even with a 3/4" shim...
Consider the ground you'll be wheeling it on. Wider tires for floatation will help. When retracted will also provide extra flotation during one of those Oh **** moments. Boaters with tinnies use them all the time in Baja for beach launching.
I have a short shaft Johnson 15 and a short transom. Cav plate still 1 1/2" below the hull. I have a chance to buy a static mount kicker bracket for cheap. Could I use just the poly mounting board and bolt it outside the transom to get the desired rise. The bracket is rated to 15hp. The poly...
