There is a lot of discussion about this on the forum. I think we tend to over think this and probably spend too much money and too much worrying about the plywood.
Yes, for our boats the marine plywood is just not worth it, in my opinion.
If you get B/C EXTerior plywood, not pressure...
I have A 40 HP mariner, 2 cylinder. It's normal or it to be very easy to spin with the plugs out. i agree with the comments below that it must be the starter or battery or connections. If yours is 2 cylinder model, it should not be hard to start it by pulling the rope if it's properly tuned...
Thanks all, learning a lot. I didn't realize they are not that expensive. "new control box on Amazon or Ebay for about $200."
Probably best to get a new control box if the used motor doesn't include them.
I don't know much about controls for outboards.
I have an old Mariner (yamaha) 40EL from 1987 and am looking for used 4-stroke motors.
My question is about compatability of the control cables and throttle/shifter.
Would my existing controls work on a newer 4-stroke 40 or 50 hp?
Are the...
After bolting in the new powerhead, using gasket maker, I used the motor for 5 months about 2-3 times/week in saltwater (Sea of Cortez). The motor runs great. But I noticed salt deposits on the outside of the powerhead in several places. I used my torque wrench and torqued what I could reach and...
If it has two cylinders, it looks like a Mariner 40c type, 2 cylinders with or without Auto-blend. Auto-blend is not same as oil injection. Auto-blend is an accessory 2-stroke oil supply that squirts oil into the fuel line. I and most others delete it and just use pre-mix.
You can look up a lot...
I am adding a tachometer to the 1987 Mariner 40EL (6E9 series). I was reading in some old posts elsewhere that a special factory tacho is needed, or something about the need to add a capacitor. The tach I bought has speed ratio adjustment based on the number of poles in the stator/flywheel. So...
I am still tightening up screws all over my old Mirrocraft after spending a fantastic year in Baja. Some I will need to use next larger size, others I will use the handy tips posted here. Thanks!
I have the same motor and the lack of tilt drives me crazy. We do a lot of beach launches in Baja and lack of tilt makes it more of a hassle at low tide.
I probably will invest in an adjustable jack plate. The electric ones are expensive but as others mentioned you can use it on your next...
Thanks in advance for pointers--
My old Mirrocraft with Mariner 40 EL 2-stroke has a battery drain problem. Here are some things I've noticed:
- Battery charges fine when underway, voltmeter reads going up to 12.2 volts while running.
- The battery will drain really fast when parked. Fast...
Thanks, I will make a block. I have some places to fasten it while in use so it doesn't fall off or get tangled. I use a transom saver for trailering. It takes a few minutes to attach it but gives great peace of mind.
