1996 Force 9.9HP impeller question (video included!)

On both my 25 Johnson and my 40 Tohatsu, the water coming from the midsection outlet is quite hot as well. I think, though I'm not sure, that the water coming from that area is from when the thermostat opens up after the OB is up to temp. Both of mine have a tell tale though, and I am guessing...

    Is this carb missing something?

Looks just like my 2k Johnson 25 did. Idle adjustment was on the left side of the carb looking at it head on. No cover on my carb either.

Which fuel stabilizer do you use?

I like Seafoam the best, both for 'de-carbing', and for maintenance. I don't use much for maint., maybe an ounce or so to a six gallon tank. Running the OB out of gas is also not a bad idea, ideally if you'll be storing the engine for more than a month or so. Keep in mind, you will still have...

squeezing more power out of a 25hp merc?

OP, sorry for hijacking your thread, I will be watching with interest, as I love to find ways to squeeze a bit more juice from engines. TurboTodd, thanks for the clarification, and I agree with you about duck hunters, and duck hunting in general. I still love it, but it has become so...

squeezing more power out of a 25hp merc?

Just curious as to where you found this information. Looking through the Annotated Code, I was unable to find any reference to modifying an outboard engine. If you go over the stated capacity of the boat plate, sure, but not pertaining to the outboard alone. Thanks, Skidz

    Electric only powerloading trailer?

My wife and I do that with our boat. She gets the boat going at a decent clip and then stows the TM right before it gets to the trailer. It's an Edge bow mount though, I'm not sure how fast the others would retract. When I am getting the truck ready to back down, I take the winch strap and...

Attach pedestal seat base to 1/8" diamond plate floor?

If your talking about drilling and tapping a hole for the bolt in the 1/8" floor, I can't imagine it holding up for very long. If you can pull the floor up and put some SS fender washers and nuts under it, I think that would be fine. If pulling the floor is too much trouble, maybe you could...

Thinking of changing motors on m 16/48

I have a heavy 1648. Fully loaded with gear and 2 adults, I get about 25-26 from a 2000 Johnson 25 tiller, elec. start. These are GPS numbers.

    1988 Mariner 25HP vs. 2010 Mercury 20HP 4S

I thought most manufacturers went from flywheel to prop rating around 1985?

    boat decison and price question

I figure the G3 would be the higher priced of the ones you have listed. The build quality MAY be worth the difference in price, but I can't recall hardly anyone having problems from Alumacraft either. Whichever one has the layout most suitable to your needs is the one you will be most happy...

    Keel guard

I have a 5 footer on my 1648 Weldbilt. Love it. Takes the worry out of the occasional rock or hard bump up to a ramp. I did like the above poster and ran a bead of 5200 around the perimeter. I can tell you though, spend the time to prep the surface right, and make sure it is clean, and the...

    Which ONE ?? '94 Yammie OR '06 Johnson ??

I'm a Johnson fan, had several over the years and never had one iota of trouble from any of them. As for parts/repair work and availability, I'm pretty sure you can get just about any part for even very old OMCs quite easily and reasonably. I would go with the Johnson. However, I do know that...

    enough HP for boat ???

Well, it will get you where you want to go, but it sure won't be speedy by any means. I was thinking that maybe the fuel savings might be substantial over a larger engine, but if all you do is plow through the water at WOT, I would think that savings might be minimal, and you probably won't be...

    Cooler for a livewell?

Lots of info here and elsewhere about using coolers for livewells. I use a 75 qt cooler for one myself, and it works great. I don't do tourneys though, instead just use a bilge pump to get some water in and recycle it every once in while. If you do tourneys, the set-up would be more...

How many of you obey or ignore motor ratings on your boats?

Oh, and the rating are placed my the manufacturer, who knows how the boat was built, and is following a set of calculations to determine maximum safe hp. Of course, it's highly likely they have built in a safe margin for error, in case someone ignores the recommendation.
