If you want to go cheap ..you should stear away from aluminum...1/4 ply is cheaper and just as good. and for the painting question. as long as you find an oil based paint you should be good. i sprayed bed liner on my boat , and its very paintable. helps seal and is very durable.....im alittle...

finished sealing up around the plate here in the back....added new bolts and washers and all the jb weld lowes had lol.

got some more work done today. My boss gave me two 4 hp motors....he thought they were junk.. come to find out they just needed to a carb cleaning and fuel system flushing and they was alitle bit a water coming out of the spark plug holes..but shes running now.
