    Alumacraft?

The plug was installed in the middle of the seat and covered by the seat board. Just there.

    Alumacraft?

Steelflex Prep Questions I have read good and bad on steelflex. I'm guessing there is a problem with good prep being performed. What is the right prep for using it? Is Alodine a good idea? Alumiprep 33? Just use a self etching primer?

    Alumacraft?

Since I used a steel wire brush when I started cleaning the old paint, what problems will I have painting? Can going over it with a SS wire cup solve the problem? There is a drain installed in the middle of the boat. Is it of any real purpose? Located in the middle of the seat. What is...

    Alumacraft?

Started grinding the bottom the other day. Went through two steel wire wheels and cleaned about 25%. It dawned on me later that I should have used stainless steel brushes. Picked up a 6" stainless wire cup brush yesterday. In an hour, I had the rest of the boat finished.

Thanks for the good info. I like that everyone is in agreement. Tells me the best route. What is the best way to fill old rivet holes? Tig weld? JB weld? Do all rivets need to be gluvit?

    Alumacraft?

I bought this boat two years ago and had to do some work to get it on the water. As the earlier post show, I rebuilt the transom and bought a new 20hp motor. The fishing is good, but I'm frustrated with storage, rotting decks, and no fish finder. So, it's time to do a complete rebuild. I...

    Alumacraft?

Well after many weeks the transom is finally finished. The transom is AC plywood filled on the ends and coated with numerous coats of epoxy, then glass and epoxy. Finally coated with red polyurethane. I took all the flat aluminum trim off and replaced with .125" aluminum diamond plate. I...

    Working with West epoxy system

Thanks for the tips. The thin coats are working well. I did clamp with one edge up. Just hoping the voids are filling with the thin coats.

    Working with West epoxy system

What about coating the edges. How do you do it so the epoxy won't run? Do I need to put some filler with it? I don't like adding filler because it doesn't flow well.

    Working with West epoxy system

I'm rebuilding my transom and with the recommendations from this site, I'm putting the West System epoxy over the wood to seal it out. When filling holes it seems to shrink into the holes. Is it soaking into the wood or shrinking? When I use filler with it, it seems to stick to the spatula...

    Alumacraft?

This is what the transom wood looked like. It had outer layers flaked off when I cut, drilled, and routed the boards. I'm using the epoxy to repair. I've never used the West system before and it was a learning curve. I put duct tape on the back of the holes to fill them with. When I put the...

    Alumacraft?

Well I ordered West Epoxy System.

How do I repair a pitted and corroded transom? Large holes?

I just got in West System epoxy for the transom. I need to fill some holes and chunks of the face plywood that popped off during cutting and drilling. What amount of filler should I use? Will it run if it is on the edges?

    Aluminum swimming pool for decking?

To cut the aluminum make sure you only use a carbide tip blade. Go slow as aluminum doesn't cut as fast as lumber. A thin kerf blade works best since aluminum won't try to close on itself. Aluminum cuts best at a slower rpm than wood. You can use a smaller blade to achieve this. As...

steel flex or a bed liner?

I used a DIY bed liner on the inside of a trailer used for wind surfing gear. It chips and hasn't held up very well. In hindsight, I wish I had paid for a professional job. There are some good epoxy coatings for the hulls of boats on the market. It seems like they would be a good solution.
