    MinnKota TALON Shallow Water Anchor

If someone was really motivated to do so, they could fab an automatic shallow water anchor that runs on a 12v motor for much less than the power poles.

    aluminum vs steel prop

I was looking for a SS prop the other day, just out of curiosity, and I'm not even sure they make one for mine? Do yall eer see SS props for the old style hub, 9" OMCs? I think my motor was on a sailboat before me, so certainly repropping it is worth considering.

    Adding Foam?

You could duct tape old 2 and 3 liter coke bottles together. I am thinking about it myself, although I am shying away from it for purely aesthetic reasons. It also might take a lot of bottles, as each 2 liter probably provides around 2 pounds of buoyancy and thats it. Great stuff has as...

Project SeaArk (NO 56K) Update New Pics

I would think, if you used pressure treated and didn't want to redo the work (like bunks), you could take carpet off and glass the wood over and it would be fine. I also have noticed down here in the south, yellawood brand advertises that its treated lumber is aluminum safe. I used that on...

    Tilt/lock on Johnson 20hp

Run it unlocked. My dad lost his 25 horse in the drink because he hit a solid tree with it locked. Motor pivoted off both clamps and into 20 feet of mud. Gone forever.

    1976 Johnson 25hp UPDATED REPAIRED 7/13/2010

This is the new motor? Dont mean to ask a dumb question, but you sure you have a short shaft motor on a short transom? The cavitation plate should be close to level with the bottom of the boat, if its much lower that extra drag will really slow you down.

What's the name of your boat?

My boat is called the zara spook. Reason being I was towed in once by some friends, and the boat walked the dog back and forth. Of course friends just cant let that go quietly. My dads boat isn't quite named, but we sometimes call it the african queen cause its so junky and old. One of...

    18 foot Ghetto Queen

Ghetto queen is such an awesome name for that boat, after you paint it, you should be sure to restore the name to that beauty. It might be bad luck not to keep the name.

Is It Worth paying for? TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE WON YET AGAIN

If anybody has ever read Max's columns over on duckworks about old outboards, he pretty much says that sometimes if you have a lower seal leaking just a bit you might be better off just changing the oil a few times a year instead of going through the trouble to do it right. Normally doing it...

Is my motor done?????? New Motor!!!!!

You might just have to pull the powerhead. I would try and get the powerhead on a drill press, cause you are going to want to perfectly center the bit on those bolts to get them out and a regular handheld drill will drive you nuts doing it. Like I said, I have avoided doing that even though I...

    stupidest mistake

Glad that you are ok. I have one of those outboards that was originally rated 100:1 on oil ratio but later changed to 50:1 - which I guess means that if you really have to you can be a little low on oil sometimes and get by ok. I always keep a pint of oil and some seafoam in a spray bottle...
