I had this same boat. Purchased mine in 1964 from Sears. I believe that Elgin was the manufacturer for the Sears private label.

Check the hull ID tag. Generally the first four alpha characters will give you a good idea of the mfr.

Just a thought here.....have you looked at the Rhodan trolling motors? I have an Ulterra on my RiverPro and HAD an Ulterra on my saltwater bay boat. The Riptide Ulterra had tons of problems so I switched to Rhodan. Night and day difference in terms of operation, spot lock, tiny remote control...

Best option is to score that local RiverPro. IMHO it is so close to your target price range why compromise with a lesser quality, less durable hull and an o/b jet. You will be able to float in 8" of water and cruise in 3". No worries about taking out an intake on a rock or log...

Try pulling the thermostat and test run it w/o it. If water pump is working properly you should immediately see water discharging.
