Corrosion and pitting in the transom

Unfortunately not going to be able sub out like I thought. Put some JB Weld in the worst parts and surprised by how well it has bonded. Only time will tell if its a good fix.

Corrosion and pitting in the transom

I was prepping the front side of the transom plate for painting and noticed some corrosion and pitting. The worst of the pitting is around some bolt holes and appears to be about the size of a nickel and go half way thru the plate. My current plane is to prime and paint the transom plate and...

    Decking framing question

Im leaning to an aluminum deck. I've been looking at the framing necessary for attaching the deck, specifically adjacent the top side of the boat which is not at a 90 degree angle to the horizontal more like 120 degrees. Most angle framing material is bent at a 90 degree angle, as shown in the...

Solid Rivets, cheapest way to buy and set ?

NLaudy, Im debating putting in an aluminum transom instead of wood. And Yes I agree I may be putting in some stainless bolts in place of some of the rivets. Tusker I've seen the tool your talking about in the All Aluminum rv forums. Looks like a good low cost option. JB Weld is mentioned...

Im curious if anyone has set these solid rivets with just hand tools and how did they work out. Any recommendations...

    More Replacing transom questions.

The foam is not water-logged but is in the way. Hesitant to pull all out since it does provide support to the pods if someone were to stand on them and I don,t know if I did remove them if I could glue them back in. I'll give the screw driver a try. Thanks for the help. JMichael checked out...

    More Replacing transom questions.

Ok I removed the rear seat pods and drilled our all of the rivets holding the lower tramsom support to the tramsom wall plate. I thought once I moved the lower support that the wood would be relatively easy to pull out. But it appears that the top lip is actually clamping on the top of the wood...

Need help with replacing the wood in the transom

Here is the backside of the stern. As you can see to top piece which the top of the wood fits into is integral with the backside of the stern.

Need help with replacing the wood in the transom

Here is another. Hope you can see that the top piece is integral with the end caps which are welded to the sides of the boat. At the bottom of the wood piece is a piece of aluminum holding the wood. The far end of this piece is hidden behind seat pieces. I may have to remove those seat pieces on...

Hello all ! I picked up a Lowe 1440M and trailer for $525 a few years ago and aree trying to make some improvements on my own. The wood in the transom is quite rotted and I'm in process of removing. I have removed all of the rivets and screws that passed through the wood, but for the life of me...
