    Pletzy's 1991 Sylvan Sea Snapper V-Bottom Mod

The Snapper floats! No leaks, besides a crappy old boat plug.Took it out to a nearby lake with a bud to go fish pike. No pike, but just happy that everything worked. With 2x 200lb guys, battery, full tank of gas, gear and half a tree of wood, the 15hp pushes us about 15mph (22km/h). Going...

Fuel problem? - Motor won't turn over, but did 2 months ago

Hey folks, I need to consult the motor gurus as I'm stumped!! I brought my 1991 Mercury 15hp 2 stroke out of storage (in my basement) to fire it up to get ready for fishing on tuesday. My motor ran like a champ a few months ago, but since being in storage for a couple of months, it will not turn...

    Pletzy's 1991 Sylvan Sea Snapper V-Bottom Mod

I appreciate the compliments @pitts101, @Silverad04 & @KTS! Few more things done... here is how I attached my removable seats to the deck using toggle bolts. I put a washer on the top of the bolt because the holes were a little big on the plastic mount. My hinges arrived too... I think a 2" gap...

    Pletzy's 1991 Sylvan Sea Snapper V-Bottom Mod

Lots of progress made. Got the deck all carpeted and wiring all secured and tested. Haven't fastened the deck down yet as I'm still waiting on the hinges for the hatches. Fish finder and TM are all wired in. The rear seat is in, along with the cupholders - they hold a wobbly pop pretty well.

    Pletzy's 1991 Sylvan Sea Snapper V-Bottom Mod

Here is how I made my TM connection at the stern of the boat. I started by cutting two holes in the base of a plastic 4x4 gang box big enough for the TM fork connectors to fit through.Next I cut a piece of cutting board big enough to fit in the box. I drilled pilot holes for my SS bolts and used...

    Pletzy's 1991 Sylvan Sea Snapper V-Bottom Mod

Carpeting and decking has started. The bow and middle deck has been carpeted. Hinges were purchased (1.25" open width .040ga) to fit my 5/8 plywood, however the wrong ones were shipped. Still waiting. Test fit the bow deck and it looks like it's starting to take shape. Got my switch box set...

wiring trolling motor without removing clips

this is my connection at the back from the trolling motor cables (top) connected to my 8ga wire which runs to the battery. I have a circuit breaker attached at the battery on the hot wire. This will be housed in a plastic weatherproof box. I think I'm going to use the cutting board idea to mount...

wiring trolling motor without removing clips

Im currently doing what you are trying to do. My battery is in the middle of my boat and my TM is a transom mount. I didnt cut the TM wire in case i want to hook it up to another boat. I used 8ga wire (6.5') to get to the battery. I used a 50amp breaker at the battery. I connected the TM fork...

    Contura Rocker Switch Wiring

Thanks for your help, Rat! I have re-drawn the diagram for C, but it is incomplete as I am unsure what connects terminals C4 & C5. Could you be a bit more specific if the diagram is incorrect (ie C1 is jumpered to C3). Thanks again... I'd be lost without this site!

    Pletzy's 1991 Sylvan Sea Snapper V-Bottom Mod

Wanted to make the bottom of the hatches look cool, so I spray painted the G. Loomis logo on it. What a beauty logo. Made a cardstock template, cut it out with a blade, taped it on and have at 'er. Also started to run the wire in the boat. This has been the most time consuming part of my build -...

    Contura Rocker Switch Wiring

hey folks... I'm at the wiring stage of my build. I thought I did all the research, but i'm second guessing myself. Please have a look at my diagram for wiring the poles of my contura rocker switches. I have a bunch of switches, but only put 3 on for simplicity. All are illuminated, so my...

    Pletzy's 1991 Sylvan Sea Snapper V-Bottom Mod

@Gators5220 - thanks bru! I appreciate it! I'm in overdrive on the Snapper lately... Time is ticking for the season opener. It's flippin' April!! Worked on my battery box today as it needs to get done before wiring. The framing is made from 2x2's and the exterior is 5/8 plywood. Everything...

    Pletzy's 1991 Sylvan Sea Snapper V-Bottom Mod

Got started on mounting my fish finder transducer to the transom. Ripped out and picked up a poly cutting board ($5) and some SS nuts/bolts ($7 :( ). Yes, Poly can be cut using a jigsaw - worked pretty well. I borrowed the idea from many on this site who popped 4 holes in the transom, rather...

    Pletzy's 1991 Sylvan Sea Snapper V-Bottom Mod

Got the bow structure finished. Used hurricane ties as extra reinforcement. Stood on it, and it's very solid. The wood is screwed into the front metal bracket using anchor bolts.

    Pletzy's 1991 Sylvan Sea Snapper V-Bottom Mod

Woke up early this morning to get in a few hours of work. My dad showed up with coffee and helped too. Last week, my wife's cousin welded me up a bracket for the front. It's bolted on where the trailer clip goes at the front of the boat. Cost me $20 and a six pack of tall boy brown trouts. It is...

Basic photo tutorial for simple boat wiring

Ive got a 36lb thrust trolling motor and I used a 50A breaker as recommended by the manufacturer. They recommend a 60A breaker/fuse for 50-55lb thrust motor (12V). Seems a little overkill, but oh well.
