tohatsu 35 jet vs 40 mercury jet

I haven't been on this board in a looong time but a recent private message alert from KGrant in my email brought me back for a look see. my 2 cents... The newer 40 4-Stroke Merc is definately 40 at the foot...60 powerhead. Mine burns 4.4 gallons/hour at WOT per my Mercury SmartCraft gauges...

What do I need to add power tilt/trim to my rig?

I was on Clearwater (a local lake) one afternoon Crappie fishing...you couldn't help but notice two boats (ski boat & jet boat) loaded with young adults (kids) racing around with each other. Then one young lad steps up onto the bow of the ski boat. He starts yelling at the other boat and...

What do I need to add power tilt/trim to my rig?

Spark… You do not have nearly as much leeway trimming a jet as you would a prop but it does have some benefit. When running…you can trim to a point where the drive shaft nears a perpendicular position…then is starts sucking air (cavitating). About 3-5 quick bumps on the trim button is all I...

    bad news/ good news

Not to mention...depending on which company holds your boat policy, you stand less of a chance of this "boat" claim affecting your long term insurance costs on other items like your car or home. Last year I changed my boat policy to a new provider. I was surprised that some providers looked at...

    bad news/ good news

This sounds like a fairly easy job for David and his gang. Front deck...you can always opt for a 12"-18" deck extension. Lots of extra storage and more deck to stand on. A great asset if you regularly remove trolling batteries. Rod locker...in front of the steering console is a good idea...

    bad news/ good news

My boat also originally came from Ernie's, as well as my recent new motor. If you can stand to deal with David you won't find a better price. What kind of custom stuff is he looking to do on the new boat? oh and the lake is @ 498.86 as I type this...498' is summer pool.

    bad news/ good news

Ouch! Though we all hate paying for it insurance is golden when you need it...especially when it delivers a new boat & trailer. =D> That looks like a JetDoctor rig...better call David and tell him to get ready. Insurance only covering the boat & trailer I suspect? Depending on how his...

    Any thoughts???

On how shallow this guy can run? here is a link to snopes.com. Apparently this is a drug running boat. https://www.snopes.com/photos/boats/drugrunner.asp

    Weight questions

If your considering building a deck in the front, wood construction may help you. I'd also consider trolling batteries, anchors, etc... stored under the front deck would be a big help. Though I still go back to a the liner/impellar. A new liner with new or sharpened impellar will do wonders...

    Weight questions

I’m no expert here either and can only offer personal experiences though for the most part I would agree with turne032. Though I think the definition of “huge difference” is relative to the user I absolutely agree with the balance. I also agree with the use of aluminum where possible. My rig...

    Happy Easter...

I've been looking forward to this weekend for some time. Spending a 3-day Easter weekend on the river, together with the entire family, has become an annual thing. Work, kids and life in general has had us running not stop since the ringing in of the New Year. That said, no matter what was...

turne032, Where do they hold the races? Is it the same place every year? Keep us posted as to when/where this year's event will be held. I'd love to come watch. Toby

    my boat

This guy with the 60/40 pushing 60mph...is this same guy that has the insanely fast 150hp? I talked to Brian Barnes last week and he was telling me about his engine work. Said he is also tuning engines for better fuel mileage as well.

    Jet Foot Accessories

Agree. Our waters here in the midwest are not as turbulent as those in other regions. Not to mention...it is another item that will need repair when you do eventually smack the foot. They also reduce your running depth. I've also heard of several having problems getting their poly intakes to...

Estimate on what these rigs would cost?

Seth, a lot depends on where you’re going to do your shopping. I would say 75% of our available dealers build these boats to order. The other 25% sell factory hulls with your only “real” choice being the motor. Unless the places you look offer factory direct hull/motor options you'll never...

    Fuel economy question

If you are referring to me…not really. I only know what I read, been taught or learned through experience. All the guys I hang with on the river are also jet boaters. We all have our personal preferences so I get alot of comparison information from them. Not to mention I am an engineer by...
