I would love to see the Tohatsu 9.9 EFI! Although, it would have to be quite a bit lighter for me to consider replacing my 2006 Mercury 9.9. That little merc./tohatsu has performed excellent. My only gripe is I wish it had an oil filter like the Honda 9.9.

Sounds like a clogged jet. I had the exact problem with my Merc. 9.9 last summer. The debris in the needle was so bad I to use a small piece of wire to clear it. Carb cleaner just wouldn't cut it.

Run it. I have a 9.9hp Mercury pushing a 20ft pontoon boat. As long as you're not in a hurry it'll be fine. Fadec

I have a Mercury 9.9hp the same model year. It has to be placed in gear to tilt the motor upright. I'm not sure if the 15hp is the same, but maybe your problem is trying to tilt it upright in neutral.

Just curious. Other than the weight of the motor (15 vs 20 in. shaft) is there any advantage of having a boat with 15 in. transom vs a 20. Fadec

Yes, it was on sale on Academy's web site. Crazy thing is the sale price wasn't displayed at the store. However, when the clerk scanned the box it came up $99. Mine is just the 4x model not the 4x Chirp. I think the chirp was $40-50 more. Fadec
