Very nice starting point. I look for them in this condition every day. I have a full thread on here rebuilding a boat exactly the same as yours. Check it out for ideas.

I think the late 70s and 80s were some great motors. They had one flaw and that was the insulation on the wires degraded quickly. Every single one I have gotten that didn’t run at all or run well, I put a new wire harness on and good as new.

This motor cleaned up so nice for a 78’.....I don’t even think I need to order decals for it like I have done in the past builds.

All stripped. I have to say, these TERRY boats are not built to the standards that the 80s bass trackers were. Seems like everything is made from thinner aluminum even the floor frames. Next up will be pressure washing everything then fill it up with water and see how many leaks it has.

Well, I picked up this boat for super cheap ($340). I’m not sure yet exactly what my plans are for it. It’s a 16ft 50hp with power trim tilt. I got it home to start figuring out what does and doesn’t work. Junked the super sixty depth finder and ancient trolling motor. Trim tilt wasn’t working...

1987 Pro 16 bass tracker rebuild

I wouldn’t say I come out ahead money wise but enjoyment wise I do. I keep track of what I spend and sell them for that or a little more not much. I just enjoy the building process. I also save money being home working on boats rather than out spending it.

Now is the perfect time to put a few inches of water inside the boat then go underneath and check for leaky rivets. Usually there will be a few and they are easy to replace or rebuck

I used adhesive remover and it melted all the carpet glue off like butter.

I have used bolts in the 3 I have changed. Just make sure they are true stainless bolts and hardware so they do not carode your aluminum. I sealed mine up with 5200 marine seal.

You are correct, do not use treated would against aluminum as it is treated with chemicals that will cause corrosion. Marine Grade plywood on the other hand is not treated with any chemicals and is safe to use on aluminum. Marine board is a high grade board, very dense and uses waterproof glue...

    Existing Deck

I would say you could frame up a 4ft extension with aluminum or wood and use marine grade ply board for the top. Just have it butt up against the existing deck and have the top flush. Put some hatch lids in it for storage and carpet over it all together.
