So you want to buy a trolling motor?

I keep saying, make one in a 12V version for us small craft people (mainly because I want to mount a bow TM on my boat, but it's a bit tippy to be climbing over benches to deploy/store it), price it appropriately and it'd sell a bundle.

    Hand Launching and recovery questions

Yeah I would definitely have to winch it down off the trailer if I got the larger boat and had the transom wheels on it. I'm not set on a 1648, but it seems it would be the best for stability with my family. The other catch-22 is the other lake I want to fish is unpredictable at best. I won't...

GoPro Camera - life expectancy ??

For what it's worth, GoPro now has their "economy" model simply called the Hero for $129.99 now, but it doesn't have wifi like the SJ4000 does for what, $99? I personally have 2 Hero 3 blacks and they are great. I will eventually add to my collection of GoPro products, probably with either a...

    Hand Launching and recovery questions

Any problems deploying them with the boat in the water, to get them ready to load on the trailer? That was my biggest worry. I think if/when I upgrade a bigger boat (like a 1648 or similar, if I can figure out a way to hand launch one) I'll go that route for sure.

    Tinboats 2015 BIGGEST LOSER Challange

Just found this...I was working on losing weight 2 years ago before I moved. I started at 270lbs and in less than 2 months was down to 246. I lost a lot of time packing my house to get ready to move, then the worst possible thing happened...while moving, I fell off the back of the truck and...

    Hand Launching and recovery questions

I've thought about it. I might do that at some time, but right now I just want to get it easier to get back on the trailer so I can go fishing this year. I haven't been yet and it's killing me! It doesn't help that I drive by the lake every day on my way to work...

    Hand Launching and recovery questions

I was thinking about that, but to do the tilting bunks I was going to lay the bunks on the narrow sides...But I think I might just screw on some 2x2s on the middle of the bunks and lay them flat. That way I still have the tilting bunk but get more support by laying the bunks flat...and I can...

    Assistance with electronics please

I have a Lowrance Elite-4x right now that I used on an inflatable pontoon. No GPS, no side imaging, but I do have Down Imaging. I will say, it works great for that, and if you're the type of person who likes to tinker with every little setting on things (I am), then it's great. If you just...

    Hand Launching and recovery questions

Yeah, I'm definitely upgrading the winch to a 1200lb winch. For a boat that weighs maybe 150lbs it's overkill....but that means it's just enough. I originally wanted to do some big modifications to this boat, especially after seeing what Sgt. Stiglitz did with his Sea King, but I think I'm...

    Hand Launching and recovery questions

Yeah, I think I'm going to try to figure out a good tilting bunk setup and try to work that out. My trailer needs some work anyways, it was a homebuilt...and was designed to be as cheap as possible, it seems. No fenders, 3" round tube used for the tongue, 2" angle steel used for the frame, and...

Mounting transom mount trolling motor up front ?

How sturdy is that front deck? Is it rigid mounted to the boat? If so, I'd get some 2x2 or 2x4s and a sheet of plywood and build a permanent mount for it. Or you can spring for rivets and some angle aluminum.

    Hand Launching and recovery questions

Let's put it this way...other than washing your hands off, you can't even enter the water without waders. When I asked the rangers about it, the answer was this: This little 165 acre "lake" is where most of the city's water passes through, and the filtration station is across the street, but...

    Hand Launching and recovery questions

Yeah, it has an old, barely functional winch with nylon rope on it instead of an actual winch strap. I have a new winch waiting to be put on, I know that'll help, and so will a keel roller at the back. Hopefully I'll have the carpet here next week so I can make the bunks, then get everything...

    Hand Launching and recovery questions

Hey, so I'm fairly new to the board and to owning one of these aluminum boats. Last fall I bought a 60's 13.5' Sea King for cheap. The problem I have is the trailer. The lake I mostly visit is hand launch and electric power only, the trailer isn't allowed to touch the water, and the ramp is...

    Question to all

Colorado law is simplified. You can only have 2 rods in the water at any time (with a second rod stamp). Without the stamp, one rod. Doesn't matter if you're ice fishing or casting or trolling.

    Fluoro Leader Breaking

I use fluorocarbon and fluorocarbon leaders on every rod right now. I've used a few different kinds, so far I have two that I like. I use Seaguar InvizX for most, and Sunline FC Flippin' for my flippin' stick. The myth about fluorocarbon not stretching has its roots in truth. Monofilament...

help on mounting something without drilling gunwale

The only other option I could think of? Get some sturdy angle aluminum and rivet it to the hull just below the gunwale, then make a spacer from either plywood or something else to pull flush with the top of the gunwale. Use that to bolt the plywood to it. That would likely be the single most...

Sorry... but I ALSO need help picking out a trolling motor :

Just my .02, when I bought my Sea King last year, it came with 2 30# motors...older ones. I decided to buy a new motor, and was looking at the same 2. What did I end up getting? Minn Kota Endura Max 55lb. With shipping and all told from sportsmanswarehouse.com it was $240. They have a...

    Tranducer mount ideas

My .02... Mine I couldn't drill into the hull because the lake I fish is a little different...It's an electric only lake, but it's also hand-launch only, so I have to drop the back off onto the rocky bank. I'd destroy the transducer every trip if I permanently mounted it. So what's a guy to...
