Most of the time the main shaft will come with the LU unless you are just talking about getting the housing. I suppose it is possible but the shaft would have to be re-splined. May be cheaper and easier to locate a complete short shaft lower unit. You also have to have a short mid section.

Off with the Yamaha 40/30 and on with the Mercury 60/40. This thing is a power house. The 40/30 would slow down considerably with 3 or 4 people in the boat. They 60/40 barely even notices.

I just sold my Yamaha 40/30. Now I am getting a new Mercury 60/40. Does anyone have any info on Mercury's recommended break in procedures? Yamaha's recommendation was a long drawn out 10 hour ordeal. I sure hope Mercury is a lot shorter. General opinions on break in welcome as well. Thanks
