Has anyone made a homemade OB motor lift strap to hoist motor onto boat?

Hoyer is one of the big names I see around me. Saw one last week for $75

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

Classic symptom of motor mounted too low. Proper way to correct is to raise the motor. When I bought my Carolina skiff 16 you could not take your hand off the steering wheel at any speed above idle. Can't believe 2 different owners lived with this for 20 years. I raised the motor (40hp) 3 holes...

    NGK BUHW2- vs - Champion L78V

No experience in an outboard, but when I used to have a CR250R honda the NGK would run for weeks and when I put a Champion in it would be fouled out in a day. I only used as a last resort.

    Johnson 6 Project

I would think it to be OK as long as you don't damage any of the teeth. Or if pulling from top don't damage the rope groove.

Can you get one of those 3 armed pulley pullers on that pull from the edge?

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

I don't remember exactly where it sits now and the motor is in the shed. What I did though was raised the motor 1/2" at a time. Got to the point where I needed raise it above where the clamp would not hit transom so I made that plate. I then raised the plate 1/4" at a time (securing it with 4...

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

Pretty sure it's a progression thing with the manufacturing. Started out fitting into the 31 case and now able to compact things and get them onto the 24 case to save space. As SA says, if you have group 31 trays in your boat a 31 case will fit much better then a 24 case. For a new install, as...

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

Get some plate and bolt together. Or get someone to bend some plate for you. Either into a "c" or two pieces into "L" and sandwich together, thru bolting transom. I only use a 4hp on this but would have no issues running a 9.9. In this pic I was testing height so only screwed, but now it is held...

    Yamaha 25hp 14ft semi-V rpm range question

You're definitely not set up correctly, or you are WAY overloaded. Can you take a picture of the stern with the motor in running position? Might be able to help you out. Also how much weight do you normally add? (People, tackle, coolers, etc)

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

Just got back from fishing and you did NOT just make a statement, you asked a QUESTION. May not have been directly towards me, but directed towards buyers of "Cheap Amazon Batteries".........which I was one of. You even prefaced it with "I would ask". Now stop or Dad's going to chime in...

Mid 1980’s Mercury 35 wire corrosion

Store it upside down. Lid will be a little harder to get off but it won't dry up. These lids, especially after using channel locks to get it open, will distort and then not be airtight when screwed on. This is why they dry up. If stored upside down a little bit will fill the void and make it...

    Thread type

His thread is straight (parallel), 3/4" npt is tapered. I think he needs a female in 3/4-14 NPSM Something like this...... https://www.mcmaster.com/5365K33/

The problem I think he will run into is that most of those fittings are tapered. His threads are straight. About the only 3/4" straight thread fittings I've seen are FGHT. (Female garden hose thread), which are more course.

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

Did you forget about posting this question? Right after I posted that I had just purchased a "Cheap Amazon Battery". I was just answering your question, and providing my reasoning for my purchase.

I'd use vinegar, but I guess baking soda would work.

    Thread type

If you are talking about the tube that is supposed to go thru the transom and have a nut on the outside those are usually 3/4"x14 thread.

Mid 1980’s Mercury 35 wire corrosion

You need to clean off the corrosion and then cover the wire with something like liquid electric tape. The corrosion comes from the wire being exposed to moisture while current is flowing thru it. Can likely get an aftermarket switchbox, but not sure just replacing a working switchbox is a good...

2012 Yamaha F60 won't shut off with key

You've likely painted over the ground attachment, or the bullet connector for the ground (black wire)has partly become disconnected.
