1956 Evinrude Lark 30 HP Tear down

Ok so is the first motor I have had that uses both of these items. Is there anything special I need to do to service or clean the silencer? Likewise, what is the best way to go about servicing the starter? Should I even attempt to service it myself or just assume it’s bad and take it to a...

    1957 Alumacraft “Deep C” Restoration

Very nice indeed!!! Was it a specific rust oleum paint you used for your top coat? Or just the basic rust oleum you can buy by the gallon?

    1957 Alumacraft “Deep C” Restoration

I finally got the seat backs removed. The plan is to put them back in as they’re still in great shape, but they desperately needed a hardware change. Plus having them out will make it easier to strip the flaking paint off of the floor. Onward and upward

To Restore or Not to Restore…

This trailer I have is not perfect but it’s really adjustable and I think will be the best fit for this little boat.

    1957 Alumacraft “Deep C” Restoration

Thank you! I love bringing my daughter out to work with me. She’s at the perfect age where she just wants help with everything!!! As for the transom, that is the backside of the wood the outer face side is completely gone. I considered restoring it but I was pulling 1 1/4” screw out without...

    1957 Alumacraft “Deep C” Restoration

It took a lot of drilling and rivet punching but I finally got my inner transom wood pulled off! to my surprise it actually had the cork backer still on it 100% intact! The wood came off in one piece as well so both of these will be really good for templates! I had 2 of my kids out “helping”...

    1957 Alumacraft “Deep C” Restoration

It’s been a good night! Got the back transom wood off of my ‘57 Deep C in one piece! Followed immediately by watching our Texas Rangers win their first World Series!!! Follow on question…what is the best way to drill out the rivets square to remove the braces in the splash well? I need to...

To Restore or Not to Restore…

I would like to have the vintage trailer with it especially since I’m also putting a period correct motor on it, but I am not married to the vintage trailer either. If it can be brought back reasonably then I would like to but if it’s going to be more trouble than it’s worth then I have the...

To Restore or Not to Restore…

So when it comes to tongue length since the original needs a new tongue to begin (it’s bent because it was jackknifed) with I can pretty much make it as long as I want lol

To Restore or Not to Restore…

This one looks a lot better cosmetically, but it was kept outside so there is some corrosion that needs to be dealt with. Also all of the rollers and bunks need replacing. Hubs and leaf springs are good, bearings need to be repacked and it needs to be rewired.

To Restore or Not to Restore…

I bought a new to me 1957 Alumacraft Deep C runabout. I will be restoring the boat and keeping it a runabout. It came on the original Gator trailer and what I want to know is based one what you see is this trailer worth saving? The tongue is bent about 10° and the trailer was clearly...

    1957 Alumacraft “Deep C” Restoration

I got all of the surface hardware removed from the hull this past weekend. What I am finding is that incorrect hardware was throughout this boat as I’m finding steel fasteners left and right all of which are heavily corroded. I will be removing the seat back as well to replace the hardware in...

    1957 Alumacraft “Deep C” Restoration

Finally got the motor off and on a stand! My plan is not to use this UGLY ‘73 50hp but rather the ‘56 Evinrude Lark 30hp I am rebuilding in another thread. Next project will be getting the transom boards pulled off because that wood is shot. I do need some advice though. The 50hp motor the...

1956 Evinrude Lark 30 HP Tear down

Got my magneto plate put back together I’ll get the points gapped later, my main goal was just to get all of the parts and pieces put back in the right place.

    1957 Alumacraft “Deep C” Restoration

Long update post warning… I’ve been stripping all the hardware off of the hull and I mean everything! Windshield, bow light, bow handle, pulleys, rollers, mysterious old screws plugging up mysterious old holes…if it was attached it’s not anymore! Tonight I started building a motor stand for...

1956 Evinrude Lark 30 HP Tear down

The spaghetti seal is brand new and I have already replaced the o-ring on the bushing. I was going to have to split it anyways as I forgot to add sealant to the prop shaft bushing. So I broke it apart again and got the driveshaft onto the pinion gear no problem. Slipped it right in and got it...

1956 Evinrude Lark 30 HP Tear down

Finally got back after it today! Boys were down for a nap, mama took our daughter to a birthday party and Daddy got to work on that gear case. Gear case went together easily. Pappy, your suggestions for installing the shift rod bushing worked great! Just for kicks and giggles I dropped...

1956 Evinrude Lark 30 HP Tear down

Pappy, this is the bushing I took out of my motor (I got it back out tonight and the pictures are showing each side). There is no recess for the O-ring. What will be the proper way to get that o-ring fully seated down in the recess for the bushing? Same question for getting the bushing down...
