Painted or galvanized wheels for fresh water?

I'm getting ready to buy new wheels and tires. Galvanized are just a few dollars more. Any advantage to galvanized for fresh water? I think paint looks better, but I'll go for function over form.

    Tire and wheel dilemma.

It's time for tires. If you've seen my bearing post below, you know my trailer rides on Chrysler hubs. The 13" wheels have 4x100mm spacing. Buying and mounting tires is more than buying premounted new wheels/tires. However, trailer wheels are 4x4 lug spacing. 4 x100 works out to 4 x...

Updated : Major pain in the a*# bearings

Decided to replace bearings on my new to me trailer over the weekend. Turns out, the axle was built using some unknown Chrysler bolt on spindle and brake drum. Bearing part numbers were worn down and impossible to read. Spent lots of time at O'reilly going through their bearings and seals to...

Vertical rod holders- use when trailering

Maybe a stupid question, but this is my first boat. I don't have a lot of room for rods to be horizontal on the deck. I was thinking of using vertical rod holders instead. For those of you that use them, do you leave rods in them when trailering and when going from point to point on the lake?

Pelican 35 or 45 cooler for my boat?

I've decided to buy a nice cooler. It will be used primarily on my 16ft Jon to store a case of water and a pan for whatever fish we bring home and the occasional one to two day camp/ family picnic. It will double as an extra seat on the boat. I've pretty much decided to buy a Pelican. I...

    Aluminum through-hull fittings

I would like to replace my below the water line through-hull fittings. Currently the ones in there are plastic or nylon. Of course, I want to avoid galvanic corrosion. I came across these on eBay...

Why does lower have to be filled from bottom?

Just curious as to why you can't fill the lower unit on my Mariner 25 from the upper hole. That's the way a car differential would be filled. Looks like it would be the same difference.

Trouble finding a service manual for two-stroke Mariner 25

Just got my first boat and motor. I want to be sure and take care of it, so I'm trying to find a factory service manual. I've found some manuals on line, but all of the mercury/Mariner manuals I've found for the 25 hp two-stroke are for serial numbers starting with 0G. Mine starts with 0C22...

What is this switch position on Motor guide trolling motor

New to me boat came with this Motorguide trolling motor. I don't understand the difference in the switch position marked "t" and the one with the rabbit. The motor seems to run the same speed in either position.

Explain how to use the live well

Just got my first boat. Not sure how to use the live well. There are four holes in it. Two are on the side above water line. There is a pump in the stern below water line. Hoses are below deck, but appear to run from pump to a valve, which looks like a toilet type shutoff. I think there are...

    My first boat

Just bought my first boat. It's a 1991 Alumacraft 16' with Mariner 25 2-stroke. Took it on the river today and had some fun. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions. Current plan it to fish the summer and do some resto over the winter.

Need some buying advice - new here.

I've been thinking about getting a Jon boat for awhile to fish the rivers and small lakes in East Tennessee with my kids. I've never owned a boat before, but I am mechanically inclined. I don't mind a project, so long as it's a fair price, and I don't have loads to spend. I thought I'd found...
