Newbie w/ 12' Jon Boat project HELP!

Hey guys I know its been a couple years but I wanted to show you the end results of the Jon Boat restoration. It was nothing elaborate like I originally planned, but I liked the end result. It took me a couple of years to finish (mainly due to some personal issues I was dealing with), but unlike...

Newbie w/ 12' Jon Boat project HELP!

Yeah, ive nixed bufford's front seat mod....just won't work on this puppy. I also dont want to screw anything down as far as the floor boards go. I want those completely removable. Only reason I didn't make it completely flat in the front was because I thought the floor might be too high up for...

Newbie w/ 12' Jon Boat project HELP!

Got the boards cut today. Nothing is screwed down yet...the pics were just for placement purposes. Next will be to cut some holes in the rear panel for storage use and then putting some Thompsons on to seal her up. Then I will get to the carpeting. I plan on priming and then repainting the...

    Bufford's 12 foot modification

Hey that turned out pretty **** good. Any particular reason you wouldn't put it on the walls again? Just didn't like how it turned out cosmetically or what?

Newbie w/ 12' Jon Boat project HELP!

Thanks, yea... still not sure about what I want to do with the interior. I may go w/ the bedliner material due to the fact that its easier to clean. Definitely want to see how your Durabak turned out. Get those pics up! Did you brush, roll, or spray it on?

Newbie w/ 12' Jon Boat project HELP!

Hey guys, thought I would give ya an update. Been working off and on for the past month or so on her whenever I could. I want to give a special thanks to the members on the board who recommended both the 3M 5200 sealant, as well as Bufford who told me all about the wonders of Flasco's Steelflex...

    3M 5200 Sealant

Thanks.... I just finished removing the old rusted bolts and am about to install the new stainless ones w/ the sealant. In preparation for the new bolt I was told to sand and then clean the area first. In regards to the cleaning, should I use Acetone or just warm soap and water?

    3M 5200 Sealant

Just got some of this stuff and would like some help on how to apply it to the bolt area. Do I want to put it on the bolt thread itself or the washer or both? I'm putting in stainless steel bolts throughout the hull and was told that the 5200 would help seal it. All help is much appreciated...

    Rusted bolts & Steelflex

Well I was able to find some 3M 5200 but had a question regarding it.... The package says it bonds/seals with Fiberglass and Wood... it doesn't say anything about aluminum. Are you sure this stuff will work with my aluminum boat? I know its the right stuff because the package reads "3M Marine...

    Alligator clips for trolling motor

Just picked a 50lb Minn Kota Endura trolling motor on Craigslist for $80. Just need to attach alligator clips so i went to Walmart and all they had was 30amp. Should I go higher than this for a 50lb thrust trolling motor or will this work? All help much appreciated.....

    Rusted bolts & Steelflex

**** went to both Menards and Home Depot and neither carried the stainless steel bolts for the 3/4'' x 1/4''D I need (carriage or hex). Hopefully, Ace Hardware will come thru for me tommorow. If they don't... is there any good online retailers that would have them? Also, went to Walmart and...

    Rusted bolts & Steelflex

Here are some pics of the bolts throughout the hull. As you can tell...some of them are fine (no apparent rust) and some are covered.... should I replace all or just the ones that I see rust on? There is a chance I will be selling the boat next month to upgrade to another, either way id like it...

    Hard areas to sand....

That's why you take the paint off w/ a sand sponge/other sander.... gives you that rough surface. And comes off like butter!

    Rusted bolts & Steelflex

What sort of sealant should I get for this? I'll probably run over to home depot or menards tommorow....

    Rusted bolts & Steelflex

It looks like they were used to attach the benches on inside the boat. The head of the bolt & washer (both rusted) are underneath on the exterior hull. These bolts go thru the hull and attach the benchs to the interior. I can take a pic if needed. Not all of them are rusted, probably about half...

    Rusted bolts & Steelflex

Should I take care of rusted areas before applying steelflex? I just finished up sanding the outside of the boat and saw that there are some bolts thoughout the hull that are rusted. I have some Rust Oleum Rust Reformer (supposedly turns the rust into a black paintable surface)... should I apply...

    Hard areas to sand....

hey guys went ahead and finished her off with some CHEMICAL STRIPPER. Worked the best out of: Regular 60grit sandpaper, wire brush, etc. Just coat it on, wait 5-15mins, then comes off like butter on a hot day. :) Just finish up the little areas with a sand sponge and you're good to go. For...
