Etec Repair Manual and Diagnostic software

Hi Guys, Just picked up a 2010 Etec 25. Does anyone know where to get a free download for a Repair Manual on a 25HP for any year between 1999 and 2003? There are a lot of diagnostic kits on eBay, Does anyone have good experience with any of them? Seems like they are all non-OEM

Let's have some fun---help me chose

Starcraft and Sea Nymph are comparable quality but the Sea Nymph hull shape and high ransom are a plus (harder to find used long shaft small outboards here). The 6 hp is not adequate for those boats. There is just too much water to displace on those hulls. Have had 6, 7.5, 9.8, 18, 20, 25...

    Wiring Layout

Those amp ratings seem really high unless the LEDs are very bright and/or extremely numerous. BTW, here is a useful Ohm's Law table for calculating various properties, if two of the three relevant properties are known (using many different combinations of units).

If a title was lost to a boat, how hard is it to obtain one?

no no no For future reference, this is the way it works in PA: Currently, boats < 14' don't get titles unless the owner requests one. There was a time where boats > 14' weren't titled either. If the boat had a title, it will say so on the PA registration card. If the boat never had one, all...

"Blank Box" to keep thieves away from your porch

Awesome, but I'd bet a high percentage of blank box users will see some retaliation. Back in the 80's I had a large old car in noticeably fine condition, and had two batteries stolen in two weeks. It was like a 'rob one premium battery, get more free' sale. On the third visit, the thief got...

    Removing Old Decals

This is the kind of result that you can expect: As others have said, a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the decal adhesive, but use denatured alcohol before and after the heating and peeling. The alcohol together with the heat helps the removal of the decal, and is very effective in removing...

strange problem with CURT Custom Wiring Harness #56106

Another issue that I have is that one of the 4-pin connectors is not that good. Sometimes my lights go off, but if I push the connectors together, and bend the union slightly at the same time, the lights are ok for a while. Maybe it is the Curt end.

strange problem with CURT Custom Wiring Harness #56106

Exact same Van and exact same Converter (56106)- Related problem: In my case the side marker lights work fine, except: They flash with turn signals only when the van headlights are on, and they go off any time the brake is used. Go figure. Mine has the separate power lead, and it, along...

1973 evinrude 25hp water pump question

Parts diagram shows no gaskets and only an o-ring at the top of the pump housing where the driveshaft protrudes. You can easily check this at Crowley Marine's website and many others . This is a similar set up used on '70 and '73 Johnson 6 HPs that I owned, except those didn't use the o-ring...

    De-carbonizing?

Seafoam did a nice job on my Merc 7.5. Ran nice to begin with, and idled a bit better after Seafoaming. Followed directions from Seafoam. Noticed a lot of the carbon on the tops of the pistons was still there. Poured Seafoam into the cylinders and let sit over night (laying down, pistons up...

Cool Telltale with Steamy Exhaust Relief - 1994 Johnson 20HP

Resolved: The issue was due to an under-performing water pump assembly. Water volume was not sufficient. This is what happened: * I had used what appeared to be a workable, but not very good, impeller from my parts motor, soon after acquiring the J 20. Wasn't too careful sealing the pump...

So what motor is it actually ??

Agreed, I got Evinrude to id my 1993 30HP using the serial stamped on the starboard bracket (not the tag on the port side, a serial is stamped directly into the starboard bracket itself), photos, and the freeze plug number. The tag on the port bracket was corroded off. As many people are...

Cool Telltale with Steamy Exhaust Relief - 1994 Johnson 20HP

Thanks Pappy, What so you think about the steam? Haven't had that on any outboard. I looked up the running temps from a manual and will check them if i can get on the river this weekend. I'm thinking at worst there is an area that is running a bit hot (at the end of the water circulation...

Cool Telltale with Steamy Exhaust Relief - 1994 Johnson 20HP

Good point Weldor, I should have stated that the impeller was changed (not new - used a decent one out of my parts motor). Will be changing all wear parts with new after I sort everything. Better to get all parts needed on one order to keep shipping costs under control. Mostly wondering if...

Cool Telltale with Steamy Exhaust Relief - 1994 Johnson 20HP

Typical for this motor? Just sorting out my recently purchased 1994 Johnson 20 HP. the water coming out of the telltale is cool to warm and the water/exhaust coming out of the exhaust relief is very hot (port at the rear-top of midsection, above the water line). It is too hot to touch for...

    Clear coat over old paint

The aluminum primer was Zinc Chromate from marPRO in a spray can, purchased on eBay. IT went on beautifully (used for the aluminum lift handle). Fiberglass primer was the flexible type made for rubber bumpers, acquired from an automotive paint supplier. The color paint was Moeller in a spray...
