    Advertising

Hoping somebody can get this message to the admin that handles advertising. I sent a message through the advertising contact form several days ago {maybe last weekend} asking for information on advertising on this site. I haven't heard a reply and would like to talk to someone about this...

    Tach for 2 stroke

But not just any 2 stroke. It's an old mariner with a single ignition coil and two cylinders. The ignition coil fires twice for each stroke of the piston. So, a 2 stroke fires twice as often as a 4 stroke and my 2 stroke fires twice as often as other 2 strokes. Any tachs that will work for me?

    My Custom Hydrofoil

My 17' PolarKraft has trouble keeping the bow down. I've adjusted the outboard to every position and some are better than others but none are great. I wanted to add a hydrofoil but somebody in the past drilled holes in the cavitation plate that don't fit the standard hydrofoil bolt pattern. I...

    Solution to EPA gas tanks

As you probably know, the EPA changed the rules for boat gas tanks a few years ago. Just like gas cans that were changed 20+ years ago, the EPA has made manufacturers make tanks that are air tight now. If you've ever tried to fuel up your lawn mower with the newer EPA gas cans, you probably...

    Scary few moments

Last weekend, we were out in the salt marsh on my boat. I was heading to the bay and traveling close to 30mph as we wound our way around the many bends and turns in the salt marsh creek. I throttled down for a sharp turn and my son noticed a lot of water flow forward to the bow of the boat. He...

    My Portable Fish Finder Setup

It's nothing fancy but I put this together a couple of weeks ago and just got it out on the water in the last few days. Thought I'd share. I have a nice sonar/chart plotter unit on our larger aluminum boat that we take out on salt water. I haven't ever had a sonar unit on our little 12'...

    PolarKraft MV 1751

I bought an old (late 80's or early 90's) PolarKraft Modified V 1751 Jon boat a year ago, last October. I had planned to get it in the water a couple of times last fall and then spend the winter fixing it up. As soon as I bought the boat, the weather turned cold and I never got it into the...

Help Removing Lower Unit from Old Force Outboard (with video)

I bought an old (1987) 4hp Force outboard motor that I found on Craigslist. I plan to use it as a kicker motor on my 17' jon boat. I'm trying to remove the lower unit and I'm stuck - or it's stuck. I spent nearly 20 years as a maintenance mechanic working on all sorts of machinery so I'm...

Rubber or Foam Flooring for Jon Boat

I have a old PolarKraft 1751 john boat. It had a plywood floor when I bought it. The previous owner added a lot of aluminum angle to the floor to make it level and laid a carpeted plywood floor on top of the added angle iron. Today, I drilled out the rivets for the flooring support system and...

    Sizing a Trolling Motor

I have a 17' aluminum jon boat and I'm looking for a bow mount trolling motor. The heaviest my boat will ever be fully loaded is under 1,500 lbs. I'm always on salt marsh creeks. When the tide is rising or falling, there is a decent flow of water in the creeks. I've found several sites that...

    How I Reinforced My Transom

I bought an older PolarKraft 1754 jon boat with a 40 hp outboard. I bought it last fall with the plan to do some rebuilding/upgrading over the winter. When I bought it, I could see that the transom had been replaced at some point. There is an obvious weld around the entire transom that is...

    Very Cool 3-Part Jon Boat

I've never seen anything like this and I just googled it and can't find another. Some guy has this posted on Craigslist in Kansas. Since Craigslist postings don't last, I'll post the photos below. Guy claims this is a military surplus boat and that all three sections stack inside each other...

    Need Help with Boat Loading

I bought a 17' jon boat. I've stripped everything off the haul to paint and as we get some warmer weather, I'm going to paint the hull and reassemble everything. I would like to have the fuel tank and batteries in the stern behind the only bench seat. I'm afraid that having 790 lbs in the rear...
