    1436 fly fisher

Hi! Putzing around with this boat. It's had the pt in it and been sitting outside for 6 months in rain and snow and it looks just fine so far. It looks great actually. I love being able to leave the thing outside and completely forget about it for a few months without having to even think about...

It's a pine closet rod dowel. I epoxied a plywood foot to it and painted it. It pushed my last boat fine, so this one should be a piece of cake.

Made a little progress over the last couple of weeks. Cut the decks to make sure I liked the layout. No hatches. Nothing fancy. The opposite of fancy. Some simple framing for the front deck I used window tape wherever the wood touches aluminum since i'm using treated wood. I have no idea why...

Not too much progress. This one will be simple, slow and cheap. Kind of like me. So....I'll just get it out of the way. I'm cutting out the middle bench and using treated lumber on my boat. I know those are both huge no-no's and I know why. I appreciate the concern and the wisdom, but that's the...

I know this....Like i said....I have a plan and it will work. I'm a contractor, so I'm pretty familiar with treated wood. You'll like my solution. Or maybe you won't. Either way, I'm doing it.

Like i said, i have a plan, and it will work. Really...it will work The bed liner is just one coat from the spray can, so it's pretty smooth. It has a little texture but not much. If you had a nicer boat you could easily sand it lightly. I do not have a nicer boat, so texture is ok with me.

Hey folks. I did my first jon boat mod a couple years ago, but I have since sold it. I moved, had a kid, and have another on the way, so fishing isn't really on the top of the to-do list these days. I did really miss having a boat though, and especially being able to get away and work on one. It...

    Flats style jon boat mod

The non-skid is a cheapo sand type additive. It's really not my favorite, but it was cheap and locally available. I taped off everything after the prime coat, and rolled out the non-skid. Then I went over all of it with the finish coat(porch and floor paint) with 4 coats. The more paint you...

    Flats style jon boat mod

Thanks! I painted the hull with green jon boat/camo paint, and put a clearcoat on top of it. I like it, but I ran out of time and got sloppy, so it still needs some work. The platform actually worked great. I have no experience on those things, so I was surprised how comfortable I was up...

    Flats style jon boat mod

Well, she made it back from Florida. The boat did great...except I had a lower unit problem and had to limp back to the dock on the last day. It could have been much worse. I must have pretty good breakdown karma :D Fishing was poor to awful. Just the way it goes sometimes. I updated the pics...

    Flats style jon boat mod

I'd be all about an alumaglass forum! It's the perfect mix of a shallow, cheap hull that is fully customizable. I'm not a carp guru by any means but I am an addict. It's very much like saltwater redfishing. The carp move into the flats when it warms up and root around in the mud for food. They...

    Deck for Saltwater applications

Epoxy and plywood is my vote, although I'd do aluminum if you can afford it. I'm almost finished with my build and I epoxy coated all of the wood(including framing), primed, and am putting the finish coat on tomorrow morning. I used a non-skid additive and a latex porch and floor paint. I've...

    Flats style jon boat mod

Hello tin boat folks. I'm in central NC, and fly fish for carp in the lake flats, so this will be my best attempt at a cheap and dirty flats boat. I was going to build a stitch and glue boat, but ended up checking into used jon boats and found lots(with boat, motor, and trailer) that were...
