Love having an adjustable jack plate on my 12” StarCraft. Easy to make height adjustments to get it right, handles great, tremendous top speed, and leaves lots of room on the transom for my ladder and boat hook. I have a 9.9 Yamaha and use a short tiller extender for steering.

I couldn’t agree more with Thill! I grew up on an island in the Gulf of Mexico during a time when wood boats were giving way to fiberglass boats… As islanders, we never thought about aluminum boats as a viable option on the waters where we lived… fast forward 40-50 years - today I live about 10...

I live in Florida’s Nature Coast, the gulf coast region just above Tampa Bay. It’s an area with an abundance of springs, rivers, lakes, inshore gulf bays & inlets and easy direct offshore access. In a season I probably spend 40% in fresh and 60% salt. Sometimes all day in one or the other, but...

I used a wire wheel as well. Worked great on all the nooks & crannies!

What kind of outboard do you plan to hang on the back? Use of a jack plate? Those are considerations when it comes to how far you plan to build it out… Also, I strongly suggest flotation foam in the rebuild… Good luck! We’ll look forward too updates!

In case it’s corrosion, I would use a power washer on it first, then etch and/or use a etching primer before applying your final coats.

I live 30 minutes from Palm Harbor / Crystal Beach. It’s pretty much the same right in that area, but big changes South, East & North! I like to launch there to boat around Honey Moon Island, Caledesi and down to Clearwater…

We love to trailer the boat when we go car camping, but I haven’t taken the boat out to any islands to camp yet…

I agree with the StarCraft bet! Here’s pics of my 12’ StarCraft Seafarer stern with and without the transom wood. It’s a single brace, but it’s an exact match - ribs and hole.

Have you thought about how you’ll handle the new transom to floor angle brace(s)? Reuse the old ones vs new fabrication? Where/how to mount? That’ll be a critical part…
