    Tin Walleye set ups

I’m still debating getting downriggers for the NR Mariner. Know that I’ll need them if I ever want to fish the mouth of the Columbia for Salmon. When fishing the upper Columbia for Walleye it’s appears optional.

    Tin Walleye set ups

When trolling, I usually long line for trout. The fly is typically 100’ or more behind the boat. This time of year when the water is cold and the fish are actively feeding throughout the water column, the long line techniques aren’t necessary. In my experience it’s more of a depth thing than...

    Your boat looks good!

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

If you are getting 20 mph with a 9.9 it’s probably Ok. Any idea what RPMs it was running at WOT? Jackplate manufacturers claim that moving the motor back will get the prop in cleaner (less turbulent) water and increase performance. There is probably some truth to that statement. The only...

Has anyone made a homemade OB motor lift strap to hoist motor onto boat?

Most conversations do tend migrate around here.

    Tin Walleye set ups

The HB Live Imaging bare transducer is on sale for $1000, normally $1500. If it were $500 I’d probably give it a try. For a grand or more, no thanks.

    Tin Walleye set ups

I hope to start Walleye fishing on the Columbia very soon, just for a change of pace from the lake fishing. Like Fuzzygrub said, probably backtrolling and crankbait trolling. Maybe some jigging mixed in at the known hideouts. Might also longline a big fly for that lunker trout or northern...

    Lithium Battery Question - 50AH LiFeP04 for a 55# thrust Minn Kota?

A high quality lithium starter battery won’t damage the alternator. However, the alternator will never fully charge a lithium battery. So top the battery off when you get home with a proper charger. They do work quite well, at least my Noco starter battery has. Whether it’s worth it for...

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

You know, if you’re in the boonies and need to extend the charge on your batteries the fold up solar panels actually do help a bit. I’ve used them to keep the house battery topped off. Think it’s a 30 watt panel so in full sun it’s throwing a couple of amps back on the battery. I originally...

I love rivet nuts - but need some way to touch up the mistakes :)

For touch up of screw heads I’ve had good luck by removing the screws, sticking then through a piece of cardboard and spray painting the heads. It keeps the threads cleans and avoids “gluing” the head to the sheet metal parts.

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

Actually, there are several Lithium recycling plants in the works right now. They are primarily geared to support the auto industry. They need to recycle the lithium from the electric cars that run on coal generated electricity.

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

I’ve looked at the Mini Jacker and no thanks. It’s just cast aluminum and wood. Besides, I’m trying to avoid pods and moving the motor back will only make balance issues worse.

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

    Perhaps for fitment reasons?

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

I have a 2023 Lowe 1448M with a 20” transom and my Suzuki 9.9/20, Zuki 25 and Merc 25 jet are all too low. It seems that for whatever reason the outboard manufactures aren’t quite in sync with the aluminum boat manufactures. In my situation there could be a happy medium by adding 1 to 2” to...

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

Yes, this could be an issue. It will impact top speed and it could cause problems like porpoising. Is the motor properly matched to the transom height? If that is a long shaft outboard the transom should measure 20 to 21”. If your transom is around 15” then you will need a short shaft...

routing wires in PVC along gunnel or under the grizzly 1648 bottom?

PEX is not UV stable. It will discolor and break down over time. Grey PVC conduit or even thin wall aluminum tubing are probably better choices. Some of the black plastic wire loom could be UV stabilized but, you would need to check. If it’s not in the specs then it probably isn’t UV stabilized.

I love rivet nuts - but need some way to touch up the mistakes :)

They didn’t hold very well. Basically, any stress would pull them out. I certainly would not use them to secure something like a trolling motor mount.

    Experienced opions on my setup

I had a similar experience in a 1242 Jon with a 55 Minnkota. Except it took 20 minutes to go a hundred yards to the dock with a heading straight into the wind. I wasn’t that far from shore but, turning would have capsized the boat. It was about this time of year, maybe earlier, so water temps...

I love rivet nuts - but need some way to touch up the mistakes :)

I’ve actually had such limited success with rivet nuts that I don’t use them any longer. Probably need to tool up. In the meantime I’m getting along fine without them.

    Experienced opions on my setup

A small outboard in addition to that 55 could be a life saver. If you get caught in the wind with only a 55 TM you could be in trouble real quick. (I*ve there and done that.) Now if you are only fishing ponds or really small lakes that don’t blow out you it’s probably Ok.
