    REALLY LOUD buzzing vibration

I took it out again yesterday with someone else driving so I could move around and find spots vibrating. The top gunwale rail where it meets the hull side is a somewhat loose fit along much of it. I had mixed results putting shims in the gap, and also tried clamping it in a couple of places...

    REALLY LOUD buzzing vibration

I haven't found any obviously loose rivets yet. I will go over it carefully to see if I can find any. Is there a way to snug up existing rivets without replacing them? I think the transom may be a big part of the problem. It looks like the previous owner slapped some plywood on there, and it is...

Anyone have a Grumman 14 ft (4.4 Meter)? Need pictures!

I just bought a nice 1984 14 ft. Grumman deep V Utility boat. I think theses were also known as the 4.4 Meter. I need to see how the transom is put together. Do you have one, and could you take some detailed pictures of the transom for me? Thanks, Dave

    REALLY LOUD buzzing vibration

Thanks for the suggestion, Stand Up. I was thinking shims, too. The JB Weld is a good idea. I hadn't thought of that. I have not used JB Weld, but my friend swears by it. He has actually used it to repair engine crankcases on lawn equipment and such. I am also wondering if the transom is...

    REALLY LOUD buzzing vibration

Here is a video of the gunwale vibration. That sound isn't the motor, it's the buzzing gunwale/hull side. At the end of the clip I change the RPMs and the vibration basically goes away.

    REALLY LOUD buzzing vibration

This is the hull itself vibrating in a couple of particular places.

    REALLY LOUD buzzing vibration

I just bought a really nice 1984 Grumman 14 ft. utility v-bottom that I put a new Tohatsu 9.8 on. It's a really sweet setup. Very simple, no carpet, just the aluminum bench seats. BUT- at certain RPM ranges the hull vibrates like a buzz saw, incredibly loud. I'm pretty good at finding noises...

Replacing transom wood- without disassembling aluminum

I'm now looking to possibly sell it and buy another boat. I hate to say this, because I never used to be so vain, but this thing is just embarrassingly ugly. It has just been beaten up (by the previous owner.) I'm seeing a few tin boats in much nicer condition for reasonable prices.

Replacing transom wood- without disassembling aluminum

I don't think this boat will ever see salt water. It hasn't in its 60 years, anyway. Now the question is what type of wood? Rather than fool around with plywood, how about a nice thick white oak board?

Replacing transom wood- without disassembling aluminum

Ah! That looks like a great method, Mbullen. What would be the proper type of rivets? All I have are pop rivets. If I decided to go with bolts, will stainless cause any galvanization woes? (This poor boat is really far from original. You should see the giant welded patch on its side)...

Replacing transom wood- without disassembling aluminum

I have an old 1963 Aluma Craft 14 footer that has seen better days. The transom wood is rotted out, inside and outside. I want to replace it, but the inside piece is covered by the aluminum frame of the transom. It looks like I can remove the old wood by chipping it out, but I can't figure out...
