Is the motor height going to be an issue?

20.9 mph with a 9.9 is very good, in my book. Go fishing! USE the boat and stop worrying. AS YOU GET TIME, do a few things... 1. Tighten the steering tension a bit, if it pulls hard when you take off. 2. Loosen the steering tension if it's just hard to steer. 3. Adjust the trim tab above...

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

Here is an interesting update... Took the kids fishing for the first time in months. Got out there, ran downlake, found some fish. Went to move and the starter turned slower and slower. Oh no... Lead acid starting battery died. Had no jumper cables, and decided to see what the TimeUSB...

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

This will be different advice from most, but I would recommend that you RUN IT FIRST. Worst case, it will give you a good performance baseline. Why do I recommend this? I had one that was very similar, with either a 9.9 or a 15 HP. It sat exactly as yours did. I put blocks under it, and...

Transom bolts - what kind to use?

Yes, 316 stainless and sealant. Not 304 or 308, but 316. It will be non-magnetic as mentioned above.

Does Thompson's Water Seal contain chem. harmful to Alum. ??

I've used Thompson's for many, many years. I have never, ever seen it hurt metal. I'm very confident that is not the cause. That being said, if you put wet carpet over aluminum, the water trapped in between may eventually cause corrosion. If it is saltwater trapped in there, it will...

I love rivet nuts - but need some way to touch up the mistakes :)

Not sure what kind I had, heavy or light duty. Mine was indeed in thin sheet metal, and I'm not convinced that the tool that installed them was that great. Looked basically like a pop-rivet gun. The whole kit, with a variety of rivnuts and dies for them cost maybe $35, if I recall...

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

I just wish they made lithium starter batteries at a price similar to the DC batteries. I would switch everything over TODAY. Actually, with TimeUSB, the answer is YES. They are awesome in the customer service department. That's the reason I am recommending them so much. Lithium Hub sounds...

I love rivet nuts - but need some way to touch up the mistakes :)

I hate when you install them, and then the rivnut just spins when trying to remove the bolt. ARRRGH!!!! With thicker materials, they work better, but I always GREASE any bolts I screw into Rivnuts. Otherwise, they lock up and you end up with worse problems. In the end, I generally use pop...

    Alternative to Gluvit

Must be nice, LQ!! Around here, a 14' jon is like gold. With gas prices so high, you pay as much for a decent tinnie as a 22' walkaround cabin boat. It's crazy. I need to visit where you are.

    Lithium Battery Question - 50AH LiFeP04 for a 55# thrust Minn Kota?

A lead battery of 105 AH is down to 10V about halfway through the AH. Depending on what you are running, that may be okay, or maybe not. A LiFeP04 battery will stay at over 12V until it gives the full AH. So, depending on what your current draw is, yes, it may outperform the lead acid...

2012 Yamaha F60 won't shut off with key

Sounds like a broken wire in the harness. You may need to run a dedicated ground to the control box. If you have ground in the console, it only needs to go from there. Will work just as well as replacing the entire harness. Of course, you can try to find where the wire is broken. Do a...

How many of you enjoy a decent stereo in a boat?

Because I do marine installations, adding a stereo is no big deal. That being said, I really like some of these BT systems! In a tin boat, this may be a superior way to carry your tunes with you. Plus, you can use it in many situations, not just in the boat. Nice!

    Console placement

Now THAT is an interesting concept. I could fabricate something like that. The steering wheel and cable wouldn't change, so you could use it when stowed. Interesting concept!

    What is a Jon Boat?

For what it's worth, I've done VERY, VERY well, looking for typos when searching for my next project boat. "John" has served me well, now I'm going to start looking for "Joan" too. Typos often get zero attention, as they don't show up in searches. I've found awesome deals, and people...

Has anyone made a homemade OB motor lift strap to hoist motor onto boat?

I use a cherry picker and a chain with hooks or a ratchet strap. Most engines have a lift eye or loop, but occasionally, I will use a ring bolt in a threaded flywheel hole or a factory lift connector. Best wishes.

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

Congrats! These batteries will probably run your TM longer than three or even four of those group 24 lead batteries. And they have a 10 year average life, so you will save money in the end. You are going to be happy with them. I waited until they hit the right price point, and I'm very...
