    How many strikes...when trolling?

I always thougth there were more fish than I was catching.

Just a little pissed at Dad.

As important as this might seem right now, I hope you will eventually take a broader perspective when you remember you dad. Parents, even those whom we remember as self-centered, make tons of sacrifices. Most of those sacrifices go nnoticed and unappreciated. My dad was probably no different...

What can i do with my boat?

Lots of options for you on these pages; do a search and be prepared to make decisions and have some fun. But I want to echo the importance of minimizing added weight and maintaining good weight distribution. Rick

    Gregor 12' (1977) with a 15-HP Nissan 4-stroke (2002)?

Based on my experience, you will be fine, given a sound transom. I played with several ratings on my Gregor and settled on a 15 hp 2 stroke. Were I to do it over again I would go 4 stroke.

How I solved the short driveway / long truck issue

I'm betting the wife isn't the only one benefiting from your idea :-)

1448 Gregor brought back to life

You certainly can go bigger. My 12 ft. Gregor was rated at 15 hp (1979), but i found my 9.9 was plenty. If there is still a data plate on the transom, it might have the max hp rating.

    Garmin Oregon 650 on sale!

I went for the 600 other than the 650 (they are similar but the 600 has no camera) and am very happy with it after 8 months. The batttery life is just fine and easily covers a day-long hike. I carry some spares for multi-day outings. The feature set is all I could want and it is pretty easy to...

inflatable life jacket, whats your favorite

I have never used an inflatable in a real emergency, but I suspect most of the major brands and private labels at your price point will do just fine. All of mine are Onyx; the materials are sturdy and they have a handy carry sack. Pay attention buoyancy rating and whether you want auto or...

    Base layers for the outdoors

I like layering and also stick pretty much to synthetics for all of them...especially the base layer. A wool sweater is nice if you're not going to get wet, but I can seldom be sure of that in the outdoors. Cotton never makes the cut, and denim jeans are a real no-no in the cold and wet. Had...

    Anyone from Oregon?

Your rig will be just about perfect. I lived in Oregon for 25 years, fished every year, and spent more then half of them in the Portland area. You will have your choice of large and small still water, rivers, and even salt if you like. I would be happy to be more specific, just drop me a PM...

    12' Restoration

Hey, welcome SynRacing35. Lots of neat 12' projects on here and great members to help with your questions. A few suggestions: make liberal use of the search function, make sure you have the registration sorted out before you invest much time and money and be very judicious in adding weight to...

Almost 50% of US climate data is FAKED!

YES! Almost half of the US climate weather data is FAKED. What's worse, the other half is MADE UP. Excuse me while I add another lump of coal to my CO2 generator.

    Craigslist find - Alumacraft '50s 12 ft

Seeing your tin really brings back memories; my dad bought virtually the same hull new. I fished a ton on it with him, and another ton after he gave it to me. I gave it to a fellow a couple of years ago who was hooked on small boats but never had one of his own...the hull was still...

    Bilge Pump placement

Mike makes a good point on access. Cleaning away debris is important; plus pumps don't last forever and will need to be replaced eventually.

    Hand Launching and recovery questions

Also, the increase in weight of a larger boat like the 16 footer you mention means more control is needed when using steep or slippery ramps with transom wheels. Even with a 12 foot tin I have come close to launching the boat by the bow and having it drag me headfirst into the drink.

    painting inside boat

I have used brush and roller, as well as spray-on. Both worked fine for my purposes; brush better for larger areas and spray better for really tight places. One recommendation: avoid gloss finishes if you are concerned about surface imperfections or about it getting scuffed up in use.

    Hand Launching and recovery questions

I have used both pneumatic and solid tire varieties and no problem with either. The inflated tire variety is easier to roll in mud or sand and typically is detached from the hull after launching. Easy enough to reattach. The solid wheel models I have used stay attached to the transom, but...

    Hand Launching and recovery questions

Another option is to install a set of transom wheels. I used them for years on a 12 ft. Alumacraft, both with a trailer and as a car topper. Not inexpensive but very effective; even for unimproved launches. Lots of brands, but here is one:https://boatloader.com/wheels.html

    ATV Tires on Boat Trailer

What earl said! For most lighter tins, the max rated tire pressure is way too much even for asphalt, and dropping it even 10-15% really helps with the bounce. Off asphalt, dropping it more will make a noticeable improvement. If you are really off road, you still will be going real slow...
