Not to happy with new 15 hp Suzuki review

I couldn't help but think "if it sounds too good to be true......" While reading this entire thread. You paid $1200 less to buy the motor elsewhere, this must have been a 20-30% disparity, that didn't raise any suspicions? I could see this for a $20,000 motor, but not a 15 horse. You have to...

    6HP Mercury compression (issue?)

It will always measure higher with oil, that doesn't suggest a problem. If there was a compression issue, it would never perform well. Since performance varies, I think the issue is still in the fuel/spark realm.

    Which Prop?

I would think a 9x9 3 blade would let it spool up enough to make some power, while. Sing realistic about output.

    Jack/Transom Plate Questions

Just experiment with different heights, start with cavitations plate on same plane as hull, then move up as desired until you get ventilation or lose coolant intake. In theory the higher the motor, the less resistance until you lose your bite in the water. Good luck!

    Trouble starting 4stroke high elevations

the friction of the air molecules rushing through the venturi and over the jet actually "grabs" fuel molecules and sucks them into the cylinders. At higher elevations, there are less air molecules flowing through, but the jet is still allowing the same amount of fuel to enter, thus leading to a...

Tansom Pad... Anyone use one good or bad

Yes, attach the wood first, prefferably with Stainless Bolts. I'm actually in the process of doing this right now. I got a 1/2'' sheet of BCX exterior plywood, cut to shape, treat with spar urethane, and bolt on. I will then bolt the motor on with bigger stainless screws with stainless washers...

Need an OWNERS MANUAL, not a service manual?

Please don't pay for that. All owners manuals are the same: install it correctly, mix the fuel 50 to 1. Use good gas, etc. Download a manual from Honda for free, the basics will still apply, for specifics ask here or DL the service manual. Good luck!

which motor would u buy? 15hp 2 stroke

Another vote for the 88. There was a sense of pride back then, motor was build by people who made a career of it. 99 was about rock bottom for what was omc. Saltwater use is a bummer too, and broken skeg makes me wonder about the previous owners habits.

Tansom Pad... Anyone use one good or bad

Anything soft enough to insulate vibrations is soft enough to allow your motor to fall off. If your gonna do it at least bolt on your motor and safety chain it. Maybe try 1/2 marine or exterior plywood cut to fit. I just am really nervous to put a gimic in that important of a role. Also if your...

    1993 Evinrude 15HP

If it runs at all I think your power pack is fine. I would make sure the kill switch is fixed, this is a common fault.

    1993 Evinrude 15HP

Awesome deal! This motor has way more value and utility than a 9.5. I'm sure once you make sure it has air fuel and spark, it'll run great. Well done!

Need an OWNERS MANUAL, not a service manual?

Just curious, what would be in the owners manual that wouldn't be explained even better in the service manual?

    Suzuki 8hp 1988 question

I would convert it to match your other motor, just remove the Suzuki plug, drill housing if necessary and replace with a male omc/merc whatever you use on the big motor. Compatibility can only help, and I'm sure a more common connector will be cheaper.

question after reassembling johnson 9.9 fuel pump

The orientation should have ended up the same as it started, however it is technically possible to reconfigure the nipple orientations, as long as the internals match accordingly. I have been through a couple of these, and they are just tricky enough that its tough to visualise how everything...

    1970's Johnson...worth the money?

I had one of those, although it looked a lot better than that, I was always disappointed in it's power and constant problems. As noted it never deserved it's 9.5 rating, very weak, and some parts are getting expensive. Also Ignitions are weak and expensive. I would have to be fairly desperate to...

Merc 15HP 4 stroke motor problems (Long)

There always needs to be some tuning after a carb re-build, I don't know what's adjustable on this motor, nut the low speed needle is going to have to be dialed in for it to run well, manual should outline process. Make sure all waterways are clear. Make sure oil level stays the same. Just run...

    EVINRUDE 9.5 SPORTWIN please help!!!

You're sure you re-installed the clutch dog and all linkages correctly so that it stays in gear forward and reverse? While the lower unit is off, you can usually pullout the drive shaft and make sure the threads are ok. I'm betting something in the shifting linkage is incorrect, maybe re-buid it...

contemplating trading my 2 stroke for a 4stroke

Well first compare physical sound ness of each motor, when maintained either one could run for a century. Then ask why your considering this trade? Do you want to be a bit more "green"? Want to use less 2 stroke oil? Want to save fuel? I think they would all be valid points. Both motors will...
