What are the good and the not so good points on a jet drive

Very poor reverse. Not the best fuel mileage. With the lack of a lower unit the wind can drive you nuts trying to maintain a straight line with a trolling motor. Any trash in the water can be picked up by the intake and completely lose power. A rock or stick the half the size of a golf ball...

    transom height

Mine is 28" from tunnel to top of transom. It should have been around 27", I had zero room for adjustment but I got lucky and it worked.

New member and new project boat.

I agree. That's a lot of weight to push with a 115. I have one that weighs around 800 lbs with a 115 and it could have used a 150.

    Rudder?

I saw a boat the other day that had one on it built from an old transom mounted trolling motor shaft and tilt bracket. He had removed the head and the motor and had bolted on a piece of aluminum at the bottom and a handle at the top. It looked like it would work.

    Optimax RPM

Is the throttle cable reaching the limit?

    Rudder?

Yeah, with the wind and the current it's a constant struggle to keep the boat on a straight heading. Right now is the time to be pulling planer boards in the rivers and it's highly aggravating to fight with your boat when the wind blows. I have thought about the sock, but there has got to be...

    Rudder?

Has anyone ever fabricated/installed any sort of rudder for those times when using the trolling motor? I'm thinking about something that could be flipped down when using the trolling motor to help with the wind and current, then flipped up when using the big motor.

    Another Jet Head

Sorry, I just looked back at the OJ drawing, I built mine at the 18" and the 6" as they show, but their drawing is doesn't show the angled front I have on mine and it is necessary unless you have a flat-bottomed boat. So mine is actually 24" plus the tapered front portion. Probably around 30" OAL.

    Another Jet Head

I built mine at 20" and just slid it rearward 6" past the transom.

    Another Jet Head

The tunnel will actually be wider than 14" where the cut on your boat will be so the 14" strakes won't be an issue. If you'll notice on this picture the sides are parallel to each other, they don't taper, the bottom piece is the one that tapers from 14" to ...maybe 16"?. (No doubt I didn't...

    Another Jet Head

I built mine with the dimensions supplied on outboard jets website, zero cavitation and it runs like a dream. Scroll thru my build pics and you'll see the tunnel. https://s984.photobucket.com/user/TRAC2772/library/Boat%20build%20along?page=1

    River Pro Jet Boats WOW!

Yep, this is the video I was thinking about when I made my handling comment, the maneuverability is amazing. If I didn't know better I would think it had a prop on it.

    River Pro Jet Boats WOW!

Their handling is what leaves me speechless. They drive like they're on rails.

No videos yet, haven't had much time lately and the rivers here in a are bone dry right now. As soon as it starts raining I'll post some up. Thanks for the replies.

Looking for Jet pump for 225 optimax

I second Current River Marine. After having the same 7-8 week trouble as you and seeing their name brought up several times on this forum I called them. We spoke on a Thursday and UPS was in my driveway delivering my new jet the following Monday. Very nice folks to trade with. It'd be worth a call.
