The Story:
Not that I was trying to catch any drum. I did however manage to boat 4 Eye's a handful of Perch, a couple small Crappie and a White Bass. Largest Eye was 17 1/2" and is currently residing in my fridge waiting for me to cook her for lunch tomorrow. All other eyes were 13" or under. I was surprised when the 13 incher measured that short, it was very stocky and heavy, not the typical "cigar". The White Bass was definitely a keeper if I was keeping them. Largest perch was 6".
The where's and what’s:
Even though I tried several methods, a Chart 1/16 oz jig w/ large fathead took all fish. Biggest eye and 2 others along with the Perch and 1 Crappie were caught in the Channel between Marie and Channel Lake. Most were near or under the bridge. The other Eye, the White Bass and the other Crappie were taken in the Channel between Fox and Pistakee Lakes with only the Eye from under the bridge. I had a night crawler piece on a jig and it took a Hell of a hit but what ever freight train it was, it never got hooked.
The proof:
The Moral:
Considering I was going to go out on Lake Michigan for Salmon and called it after seeing the wave forecast and was going to resign myself to house and yard work when the wife said to go to the Chain, I think I had a great day. Even without the drums.
