I figured I had purchased the trout stamp why not use it. So I took the boy out and we fished hard for an hour. No trout wanting any part of us. I was throwing my baitcaster so my 4 year old wanted to throw some too. I had the wife's spinning gear in the car so I was like what can it hurt. Set him up with a shakey head and senko type worm. Spent about 20 minutes teaching him how to cast with it, b/c he has only used a closed face button reel, which was in the water trying for some trout.
His first cast on his own was ok, his second was text book. On that cast BOOM fish hits it. He set the hook and then spend about 5 minutes getting this fish in. I did not help getting him in. Could not get any other takers. He got tired after another hour so we left.
So 4 year old 1 Me 0.
