Possibly Dumb Question about Marine Carpet

I am trying to put some carpet on some wood for just a small part of my boat and I have some carpet. The problem is... I don't know which side of the carpet is up . One side is more flat and gray in color and feels more waterproof, the other side is more like carpet. Which side do I put the glue on and which side is the top. Thanks for the advise.

The rubbery, flat side should go down.
