I removed the rusted out drain plug hole gasket whatchamacallit from my tinny project and am now left with just a hole in the transom. I want to replace the old rusted out plug hole gasket whatchamacallit with a new, shiny plug hole gasket whatchamacallit. All I've seen listed on the interwebs...

When installing the solid rivets, how tight does the hole in which the rivet will go need to be? I ask because one hole I have to plug (where a bolt used to be) is just a little bigger than the 1/4" solid rivets I have. Will the rivet spread out enough to fill in the hole once it's whopped...

Dan, Thanks for the info. However, everything I've looked up regarding solid rivets says that I will need special tools to install them. Is there a less costly option? Also, would blind rivets be acceptable if they were coated with 3M 5200? Thanks, again.

I leak tested it before I took a few old bolts out of the transom and the hull. It was fine then, but I'm pretty sure she leaks like a sieve now. This brings me to my first question: How does one who cannot weld patch a few old bolt holes in aluminum? I had thought about using stainless...
