    Need Advice: Buying Fishing Kayak

I also just noticed a recent CL post for a Native Watercraft Ultimate FX 12 for less than $1000, but the hull looks like a very different design. Its got just one scupper hole way up in the bow. It looks like the transducer would need to go over the side on a gear track if I didn't want to drill...

    Need Advice: Buying Fishing Kayak

All of this is great advice. More than I even anticipated. There's a paddle shop here in town and I think I will definitely go there to try one out. Unfortunately they don't carry the kayak I've been thinking the most about. I've been doing a lot of research over the last two days and so far...

    Need Advice: Buying Fishing Kayak

A few years ago I bought a 16' Lund and even fixed her up a little bit. (I've got a modification thread on this site somewhere.) Well, to make a long story short I'm going to sell the boat this year. I've got a daughter now, garage space is at a premium and I didn't even take the boat out once...

    Fastening Carpet to Rubber Mat

I have a quick question that some of you may be able to help me with. Instead of laying down plywood for a floor in my boat I have decided to cut some 1/4" rubber mats to size and lay those down on the bottom of the boat. Over these rubber mats I would like to have some carpet; however, I'm not...

Leaking Rivets in Fuel Tank. Solution?

I have a 6 gallon tank for my '84 Johnson and one of the handles at the top has broken off somewhere in the distant past. The tank only had one handle when I bought the boat. (Pictures are below.) This missing handle isn't really a problem because I rarely take the fuel tank out of the boat, but...

    FishyItch's 16' Lund Mod

This is about where the seats will be when I'm using the 11" posts. There are a little high at 34" from the floor, but I think it's still more stable than building the floor up into a raised deck. Of course, I might need to build the floor up a little in the front-most floor section just because...

    FishyItch's 16' Lund Mod

Here's my solution for the storage in the second bench from the stern. I cut the top of off a Sterilite trash bin and I'm going to fit that inside the bench below the hatch. It's going to fit pretty well I think once I cut some of the foam out. And yes, I will be replacing the foam elsewhere. :D

    FishyItch's 16' Lund Mod

The first thing I needed to figure out was how I wanted to attach the benches to the boat. There are brackets riveted into the hull of the boat, but it seemed like sliding a carpeted piece of plywood into that bracket would be a pain in the neck. (The first picture below is of the bracket.) I...

    FishyItch's 16' Lund Mod

Whenever I have any free time to spend with my boat I always think, "I'll go fishing." I never think to myself, "I should really replace these crappy benches and fix this boat up." Well, I finally decided to rip out the old benches and start from scratch. Here are some pictures of the boat.

Why do we build floors? Alternatives?

That horse stall mat is the kind of thing I was wondering about, but after looking it up it looks pretty heavy. A 4'x6' piece is 100 lbs. Does anybody know of anything similar that is lighter?

Why do we build floors? Alternatives?

Okay, so here is a big question... Why do we build floors for our boats? I'm not talking about raised decks; I understand the reasoning there. I'm just talking about flat floors on the bottom of the boat. I'm currently rebuilding the interior of my boat and I understand I need benches so I have...

    Best way to replace parts?

First of all, when I said "crank shaft" I actually meant "gear shaft." Sorry. Anyway... I've put everything back together and it seems to work alright with the damage, so to get you guys a picture I would need to go out to the garage and take everything apart again. I'd also need to clean off...

    Best way to replace parts?

Last week I posted a question about a spinning throttle grip on my 1984 25HP Johnson. Well, I opened everything up and it turns out the outer half of the steering handle is broken. There is a circle the gear shaft passes through on this part, and this circle has broken off giving the gear shaft...

    Need Help: 1984 Johnson

So without doing too much I think I solved the problem. After inspection it seemed like the teeth on the crankshaft weren't catching. So this is what I did. I put the tiller arm back up to the vertical position and then slowly back down the the horizontal position. Like magic, everything fit...
