'87 yamaha good or too old?

Thanks for the reply. I actually need a tiller steer and they said they had a tiller kit and would convert it for me. The gear oil is no big deal, I have the stuff to do it and it takes less than 5 minutes. I would ask them to change impeller but I'm also going to haggle on the price( I only...

'87 yamaha good or too old?

https://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/bod/4829130674.html Supposed to run great and was well taken care of. Judging by the lack of paint loss on the prop it has not seen much use. Would this be a good reliable motor or should I look for something newer? They did not change impeller or gear oil. I...

    Battery being overcharged?

Got a reply from the manufacture. They said it must have detected sulfacation and gone into desulfacation mode. Well, This is a brand new battery and has done this the 3 times I've charged it. I'll be buying a Minn Kota charger.

    Battery being overcharged?

I walked out to the garage and noticed my schumacher sc-1200a charger was reading 99% charged at 16v on the LCD. I grabbed my multimeter and the battery was reading the same. I unplugged the charger and checked the battery again in a few minutes and it was reading 13.4v. Is this normal for the...

    Rooster tailing

Those weren't my pics, I was just posting the idea. I had some spare time at work today(I work in sheet metal fabrication) and welded this up out of scraps, sand blasted and powder coated it. It's beefy, not going anywhere! Anti-vent is now level with keel.

    Rooster tailing

Thanks Guys. I was thinking a simple Transom riser like this guys.. https://forum.tinboats.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=26279 I work in a sheet metal shop and could whip this up tomorrow. I'd just need some stainless bolts to mount it.

    Rooster tailing

Ok, I guess I'll have to build a jack plate. I can only raise it about an inch and still have the clamps on the transom as is. I'll play with the trim some too. I need to move the battery and fuel tank to the front to try and level out the load some.

    Rooster tailing

Got the '73 Johnson running today and headed to the lake. While up on plane water was shooting up the transom and into the boat pretty bad. I went maybe a half a mile and had over a gallon of water in the boat. The trolling motor was out of the water and nothing else is on the transom. Look at...

    '72 Johnson 25hp compression readings

I have the opportunity to pick up a '72/73 25hp long shaft, tiller, Johnson for $cheap. It's been sitting and barely runs, but did run well before sitting, or so I'm told. The compression readings are 115 on the top and 110 on the bottom. Does this sound OK? It would need the carb rebuilt along...

    Jack Mods?

Any Jack mods to help make the trailer more maneuverable by hand? My trailer has the standard 1000lb flip up rolling jack with a 6" wheel. When I unhook in my driveway I have to spin the boat around and pull it into the garage. Its a heavy boat so quite a chore and the little hard wheel makes it...

    Specs on a 1974 12' Gregor?

Don't know the specs on the 12, but I just sold a 1978 13' for $2800, with motor and it was in great shape. It was rated for a 25hp, 5 people and two guys could stand and fish no problem even in rough water. Check the gregor website for 12' specs. One thing I didn't like was the hull design...

    covering riveted patch?

My SC alaskan had a few small holes in the bottom from corrosion. I was unable to get to these spots from the inside so I followed the advice I'd read here in the forums. I cut a patch out of aluminum sheet and riveted it on there with blind rivets and 5200 to seal it all up. I've had the boat...

    Trolling motor for a kicker?

I have a 16' smokercraft pro alaskan, my plan is to get a 45 or 50lb thrust MK riptide. I wont be trolling with it too much, more for a backup to get me to the launch or at least shore should my yamaha 30 die on me. I never plan to be more than a couple of miles from the launch, and I'll be able...
