Trolling motor for a kicker?

I have a 16' smokercraft pro alaskan, my plan is to get a 45 or 50lb thrust MK riptide. I wont be trolling with it too much, more for a backup to get me to the launch or at least shore should my yamaha 30 die on me. I never plan to be more than a couple of miles from the launch, and I'll be able to use the starting battery as a backup to the TM battery if it gets to that. Does this sound like a good plan? Will 45 or 50lb be enough? They get pretty expensive after that.

should be plenty. i have a 30 on my 12ft and that thing pushes it along really really well esp. with over 600lbs of gear
