Most likely the shift rod just came loose. You have to unbolt the lower unit and drop it down slightly. Inside you will see the shift rods. The upper rod attaches to the lower rod with a brass coupling that squeezes together with 2 screws. They may have came loose or it may have stripped. The...
There should be a plastic sleeve in there that will melt when heat is applied. It is on there for that purpose. It will have to be replaced. Be careful not to get too hot or you may damage water pump impeller on up the shaft.
Scootzu. I have a soft copy of the installation manual. PM me your email address and I will send it to you. The offer from rockdamage sounds pretty good if he is close to you. Mercury does not officially support this install on a jet. You have to make sure you order the proper cables or it will...
Most of the time the main shaft will come with the LU unless you are just talking about getting the housing. I suppose it is possible but the shaft would have to be re-splined. May be cheaper and easier to locate a complete short shaft lower unit. You also have to have a short mid section.
Off with the Yamaha 40/30 and on with the Mercury 60/40. This thing is a power house. The 40/30 would slow down considerably with 3 or 4 people in the boat. They 60/40 barely even notices.
On my 3.0 in my pontoon you have to have a pump that screws on to the dipstick tube. If you look the dipstick tube it should have threads on it just below the top. You just pump the handle to remove the oil. They also make electric pumps with tubes that go down the dipstick. As far as oil I have...
I just sold my Yamaha 40/30. Now I am getting a new Mercury 60/40. Does anyone have any info on Mercury's recommended break in procedures? Yamaha's recommendation was a long drawn out 10 hour ordeal. I sure hope Mercury is a lot shorter. General opinions on break in welcome as well.
Thanks
It isn't a 250hp bad boy like yours dhoganjr but it will hit 27mph on the lake with 2 people and usually around 24 going up river. I fish the White River primarily. We don't see too many big boy jets like y'all run in Missouri.
