For those that store outdoors, cover on always?

Mine is always outdoors in the carport, with a cover on it. The amount of dust and dirt which accumulates on the cover over the off-season is ridiculous, and I live close to water, in a rain forest, so one would think the dust would be minimal... For air, my cover not only has rear air vents...

TIP - Now WHERE is that drainplug?

They're around $6-8/each... I buy a few of them and throw one into random places: tackle box, glove box, storage bin in the truck, storage pod in the boat, one in the Thule... That way... if I actually lose the one in the back of the boat, a spare is never far away...

    Electric motor transom plate mod

Hi All, Last year, I almost lost my electric motor, when it was on full, and I turned it - **** thing almost torqued right off the transom. So this year, I came up with this solution. I took a piece of 3" x 2" x 1/8" angle aluminum. I cut the 2" side down to about 2/3" across, ground down the...

    Fish finder mount mod

Hi All, Havent posted in a while, but am getting ready for our big, annual fishing trip/summer vacation up North, and I thought I'd share a couple of things. I wanted to mount my Lowrance fish finder, but couldnt figure out a solution that I liked. So, I came up with something that I can use...

DEEP AND WIDE 14’ ALUMINUM UTILITY BOAT

Most manufacturers have a complete listing of specs on their website, and most will have wide-chine, flat V's with a 65-72" beam in a 14-16' that have a good amount of freeboard. Choose a dealer in your area with a boat that has a floor plan you like; Princecraft, Alumacraft, Lund, G3, Lowe...

Newbie with a question about Jon boat length to plane

When I first got my Alumacraft V16, I had my trusty 1990 Evinrude 15hp on it. So, that's a motor which only weighs about 75#'s. A four stroke 9.9 will be laughably heavy and under-powered comparatively. With me, my wife, and two kids, I could only get to 12mph and it wouldnt even come close to...

    Downrigger setups - What’s yours?

Here's an interesting read on the topic.https://suncruisermedia.com/the-sport-fishing-guide/fishing-tips-from-the-pros/downrigger-line-debate-braid-vs-cable/. TL;DR: It comes down to personal preference. Most pro charters have tried braid, end up going back to steel.

    Post a Pic of your...trailer?

This was the used trailer I bought for my new boat back in 2016.... Picking up the boat from the dealer... Looks okay... My first trip this year down an extremely remote forestry road, and this happened... So now I have this 2200# Karavan...

    Downrigger setups - What’s yours?

I bolted the Scotty mounting plate for the pedestal onto the bench with a 1/8" thick aluminum backing plate on the underside of the bench (the plate is about 8" x 10"). That way, all of the stress from the downrigger is on the plate, not on the wood of the seat.

    Rivet Nuts in Gunwale

I used rivnuts to attach all of my seat mounts and rod holders. The rod holders are in the gunwale. I'm not sure about a trolling motor, as at full throttle turned to the side completely, that's a *lot* of torque around the mounting bolts. With that said, for my application, its been two+ years...

    New 2017 25hp 4 stroke efi yamaha

Fwiw I have a 2016 Alumcraft V16-15 (b/c my old 15hp motor was a short shaft), and picked up a 2009 Yamaha 25 2-stroke (dual carbs). With me, my wife, two young kids, and one or two of my kids' friends, gear, battery, and around 55lbs in fuel (1 x 6gal tank, 1 x 3 gal spare tank) I can hit...

Newbie looking for help with choosing boat

I just went through this myself not long ago: https://forum.tinboats.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=31729 Fwiw, I bought a Lowe 1457. Now, when I bought it last year, my family had a LOT of fun on it. My kids were 4 and 6 at the time (my 4 yr old being quite small), and we were all able to fit...

    G3 1448PF performance with 25 hp Yamaha 2-stroke

It is, but not much of a V. More importantly, its a heavy (welded) boat, and he's a 300+ lb guy. 25hp is plenty for that boat, unless you want to do silly/scary fast...

    Transom Help

Here is what I am currently doing with mine: https://forum.tinboats.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=37874 I should be doing more in the coming weeks including an aluminum plate for the motor mount, which will also raise the motor, so I'll keep adding to the thread. I just used supplies from HD and a...
