    25hp Mercury 4stroke questions

Does it have much power on reserve, I'd like to be able to back out of the throttle a little once on plane but then again fuel consumption probably won't be much of an issue with a four stroke.

    25hp Mercury 4stroke questions

I'm looking for input on what everybody thinks of the 25hp Mercury 4strokes. I'm currently running a 2 cylinder 25hp evinrude on a 1544 .100 gauge alweld and I'm looking to upgrade to a newer motor. Right now I plane out pretty quick and run mid 20's and I've heard the 4 strokes plane a little...

    thoughts on stomp grates?

No offense PSG.... although yours is a great concept its more of a weedless/wash system rather than a stomp grate. A stomp grate will have 2 sets of bars, one set that hinges and one that does not. When every other bar hinges it allows for the removal of rocks and debris that are stuck between...

Custom Tandem Axle for my 14'er

LOL probably 75% of my launches are off a gravel bar on the river bottom farm I live on.

    Flat bottom jet

I'm not familiar with the potomac river but if it's shallow/rocky and you run high risk of finding the bottom then your options are limited. If its a fairly deep river and low risk of impact then your have a few different directions you can go. The condition of the surface of the water (smooth...

    70HP Chrysler Jet Unit???

I'll probably do that, I looked at their website but they only list jets for newer model Chrysler's. As far as the motors worthiness, it actually belongs to my FIL so I doubt it would be free otherwise.

    70HP Chrysler Jet Unit???

I have been offered (FREE!!) a good running but old (70's?) 70HP chrysler outboard and was wondering what lower units are compatible so I can start looking for a Jet Pump to put on it..... Any and all help will be greatly appreciated

    Alumacraft Jet Jon Project

Yes I have been running the stock impeller with absolutely zero issues, loads of bottom end and a smooth powerband through the mid and top end. I'm pretty sure the factory polaris impellers are variable pitch so re-pitching would probably be very difficult. I believe you would have to bend...

    Flat bottom jet

It really all depends on how you plan to do the modifications (fabricate/weld or slice/splice) and the type of water you will be running it on.

    Alumacraft Jet Jon Project

If you put all new parts (including pop-off springs) in the carbs when you rebuilt them it should not run poorly. I would double check to make sure everything is within spec...fuel mixture/pop-off/return line pressure/jets/carb timing/needle and seat size. Once I knew all of this is correct I...

    Alumacraft Jet Jon Project

If your carbs have not been rebuilt in the recent past I would HIGHLY suggest doing so and upgrading to a triple outlet fuel pump if you haven't already. Before you do all of that I would check each cylinders compression or pull the head caps off and take a visual look because the lack fuel to...

Custom Tandem Axle for my 14'er

I think a mini tandem would be pretty nice for maneuvering the trailer in reverse. As far as shallow launches go I have a tilt trailer which helps but have seen trailers with the bunks on a separate frame that hinges at the front and is lowered/lifted by cables in the rear.

Didn't use marine grease on my bearings. Uhoh?

You are probably better off without marine grease in your hubs because it is not made to withstand the higher temps that many miles of summertime hwy driving might cause (especially if you have trailer brakes)

    14' Polar Kraft Jet Project

Wow....I am surprised at how much different yours sounds than mine. I'm probably gunna make me a straight pipe now to leave in the boat for when I want to swap out and play a little.

    rhino jet jon

Loader style grates work good but offer no protection against rocks/debris and although I cant prove it, I believe the extra bite causes the boat to ride lower in the water.

    rhino jet jon

I've personally never seen a "spooned" boat other than your's but it appears to work great. Since the spoon has to be bent/shaped they must be constructed of lighter material that is more apt to get dented/misshaped once again causing cavitation...possibly worse than it was before. In the...

    rhino jet jon

Cavitates under what circumstances? If your intake is 2"below the hull, not too far forward and cavitates in anything less than rippled water then you have different problem that I would try to address first.

    rhino jet jon

I don't have any pics of the one that I done but there are a couple boats in the SE Missouri area with them, hopefully they are lingering around on here and will chime in. I've seen them done 2 different ways but this little sketch pretty much sums up how I made mine a few years ago. It only...
