    Bleeding the power trim..

For the last year or so, since I installed a power trim into my 1995 Mercury 60hp, the unit would work fine on the way up but would intermittently skip on the way down. Well I tried to bleed it while it was on the boat a few times and could never get the problem to go away. Last night I...

Running with a Power Tilt Kit

Yea, it must vary then, my mercury power trim actually forces the fluid up and down. I guess that's why my transom saver says "must be used with a power trim only". Just the weight of the outboard sitting on the transom saver wouldn't be enough to keep it stable while trailering (is that a word...

Add tilt and trim to a manual outboard?

As long as the original stainless screws in your trim housing aren't seized, you should be good to go! Before I did mine someone told me that some guys end up replacing their transom brackets when they do the power trim upgrade, now I know why. ](*,)

    Compatible Year Models

Do you have your outboard serial number? Google "outboard parts" and you'll find a few websites where you can punch in your model or serial number and it they will show you all your parts. Once you have that p/n, you can google it again and see if there are newer p/n's that supersede your old...

Running with a Power Tilt Kit

I'm about 99% sure that's only for manual tilt outboards, some will have a latch to lock it and unlock it. I struck my old outboard on the way out to a duck hunt on my old boat, that will wake you up real quick. Or get a tunnel hull and hit less stuff :D

    Trim and Tilt

One thing to be aware of is that the CMC PT-130 pushes the outboard further back, basically like a jack plate. Not good for a tunnel hull. If you don't have a tunnel, then go for it. I specifically went with a mercury factory power trim so that I wouldn't have to push the outboard further back...

    Trim and Tilt

Really gonna depend on what size hp the motor is, I have a 60hp Merc and recently put a PTT on, best money I've spent on my boat. I had to replace the transom brackets because the stainless bolts holding the trim at the bottom were seized. 60hp is pretty heavy to tilt from inside the boat, not...

Fuel Issues with Mercury 60/45 jet

Pappy has sound advice as usual. Another thing to check would be the fuel line fittings on your gas tank, fittings around the ball itself and the fuel line fitting connection at the outboard. Just to make sure you don't have an air leak or a pinched fuel line anywhere (easy to start with that).

Fuel Issues with Mercury 60/45 jet

It's normal for it to take a while to start up after it's been sitting because all the fuel is out of the carbs, fuel line, etc. Were you using the same gas tank, gas, and fuel line on your boat as when you were in the shop? It could have gotten flooded after you turned it over so many times?

Stop Pin - manual trim vs power trim

I use a transom saver so I think I'm fine there, I just wasn't sure if it's better for the mid section of the outboard to rest on the stop pin instead of resting all the way onto the swing bracket, but it probably doesn't matter. Thanks anyways :fishing:

    mystery tackle box for Panfish

I just signed up for the Mystery Tackle Box myself, you can enter code "GET499" and they'll take $10 off the plan. Then I upgraded the box to the Pro box for for $9.99, so $15 shipped for the first Pro box. Might be worth it just to check it out for the first time then cancel if you don't get...

Stop Pin - manual trim vs power trim

Just curious, the stop pin is only for manual trim units right? I swapped to a power trim and like to be able to trim all the way in at times so I removed the stop pin. Should be fine right? Thanks

Are larger HP Outboards more susceptible to blown powerhead?

I've owned a few smaller HP two-stroke Outboards ranging from 9.9 HP to 60HP (and 2 9.9hp 4stroke's), never had any of them blow (knockin' on wood ). Some of my buddies who run large bass boats have blown their powerheads, one on a brand new 250 XS Merc! This got me thinking, why do you...

    74 Johnson 50hp any good?

I see old Johnson's out on the water all of the time (no pun intended) If it has good compression, lower unit oil is clean, tell tale is pissing, I'd say go for it (if you're getting a good deal of course). You can always find parts for cheap on eBay.

short video of Gatortrax Hydroturf in my boat

You bet. BTW - I got a big roll of paper and layed it down and drew a pattern of my deck, then layed the pattern on top of the hydro turf and cut it with a straight edge and a utlitiy knife. Peel the back off and get a helper to grab the other side before you lay it down. The 3M stuff is really...

Newbie. Questions on what to get for my needs

Hey Gp, Boats shrink as soon as they hit the water :) Meaning, that if you're going to fish 3 guys out of it, swinging lures, etc. 16' is the smallest I would go. I have a 12v 54lb Minn Kota on my 17' Tunnel Jon and it moves it just fine. But since you won't have a big motor or gas tanks, I...

Two large sheets from Gatortrax was around $220 shipped if I remember correctly. Have plenty of leftover to cover odd spots here and there.
