Hull Design Consideration for 14' Utility Boats

Nice setup! I'm still torn about removing any of the bench seats. I would like to remove the center seat and add a pedestal forward of the rear bench seat. I would use an extension handle on the tiller. I've heard conflicting thoughts concerning the hull flexing once the seats are removed...

Thanks for sharing your experience- good insight! Sounds like the Lund C-14 is similar to the mirror craft. My plan is to treat the boat like a kayak by staying seated especially if there's some roughness coming my way, like you stated. Additionally, going to keep centered and limit how...

Hull Design Consideration for 14' Utility Boats

Over thinking is my favorite pass time lol. In all seriousness your right! I did launch my boat once and she felt solid. I was dlowly putting down a channel towards the lake when the engine stopped idling, so I turned around. I replaced the carburetor, which did the trick. This past summer...

What hull do you have now, the 16' that is? That's a good point concerning the tradeoff in ride "softness" and static stability when it come to chine shape. I've been eyeing the Polar Kraft Dakota 14' because of the hard chines in addition to the Lund SSV14. At this point as others have...

What do you mean by the water "sticks" to the soft round chines at the stern?

I too am conservative regarding conditions. I mounted a trolling motor on the bow and wondered how easily I could move forward from the bench seat to deploy the motor. I suppose go slow, go low, and step purposefully is the key

The transom dips down and I short shaft outboard. I'm a heavier guy north of 300, so that's reassuring to hear. I just thought with those rounded chines she would roll like crazy.

You feel secure sitting that high above the bench seats? I do like that setup versus a full casting deck

Nice rig! No stability issues when using the casting deck?

Thanks for the response and heads up on recall status 👍 What type of waters and conditions do you boat in with your mirrorcraft?

You're probably right - it's going to come down to seat time. I'm comfortable in kayaks and big boats, but have no experience with small tin boats. I do worry about the short transom. I've seen splash guards thar can be purchased and mounted on the transom, so I may go that route
