I have a question, I recently replaced a water pump. I put everything back together, and it seems like the tiller and shift linkage has an issue. The tiller when I shift turns but the cables don't move all the time. It seems like there is something in the tiller that is badly worn or wearing...

Can anyone identify this yellow wire from a 1997 Merc. 25 HP. I cannot figure out where it is suppose to hook to, it is just there, I believe it is a choke solenoid? It is connected on the side of the carb. Thanks in advance, you have all been a great help to me.

Trust me i am sure there is a lot not right with this motor, the more I go on. Started with something fairly simple now I have about $500 into it, and i can't even get the fly wheel off to see if it starts after i add the new parts. :evil:

Sorry fat fingers, I used an electric impact, and it actually pulled one of the bolts right out of the flywheel, and i stopped because I didn't want to wreck anything.

tried electric impact on it, and it pulled on ot the bolts that I had threaded into the fly wheel right out.

I should add the guy I bought it from said he replaced the stator last year, well thats what I am trying to do, becuase I believe he used a used stator, the wires were butt spliced to the plug, giving it VERY bad Ohm readings. As tough as this is I find it hard to believe he had it off last year.

OK so whats the big secret to removing a flywheel? I have the main bolt out, and a harmonic balancer puller on it, and cannot get it to budge. I have tried to put a lot of tension on it with the puller and smack the main jack down, have had tension in it and been soaking it with slick 50. So...

Looking for flywheel for 25 HP 1997 Merc ouboard.

I just looked at selocmarine.com they say the OHM reading tfor the trigger is 1200-1400, if thats the case I am way below that.

They appear to be about $50, I do have a gear puller, and an electric impact. I just hate to think if this isn't the problem, I have wasted time. I would really like to use it this weekend.

Tested between trigger leads (brown/yellow & brown/white) resistance (ohms) I got 627, is that bad enought to cause this?

I am thinking this is getting a little beyond me. I don't have any manuals for this motor, I did buy the online repair manual, which is great for specifics, but doesn't show you the over all of the motor, so you can even locate whre to start looking for some of these parts. I just hate to take...

Do you know what the resistance test is for the stator? The guy i bought it from said he had it replaced last year.

Tried this tonight, got no pop at all. Opened the butterfly, shot some down the carb and got no pop just turned over, frustrating. :?

You mean right down the carb barrell? I will give it a try tonight.

I did that and do have spark

Primer bulb was soft but when you pumped it, was hard and stayed hard but motor didn't start.
