    the build has begun

so after thinking about it constantly, wondering if i put enough support up front, i went home for lunch today and walked on it, jumped on it, and wobbled back and forth. i have put my mind to ease. it's plenty stable enough. plus, i'm a big guy (about 250 pounds...OF PURE MUSCLE! :? ...alright...

    the build has begun

well added some extra support to my framework that goes under the front deck, i used 5/8 thick plywood and there was a little too much flex for my liking, got it pretty solid but there is still very slight flex in some parts, any of you have any flex in your front decks? i'd add alot more but...

    the build has begun

yeah, its pretty wide, 48 at the bottom and like 64 at the top beam. which is funny because i passed up a boat because i was concerned that it was too narrow, looks like i found one to suite me well :) well, we painted today, used the walmart special krylon camo spray paint (olive-extra...

    the build has begun

i figured maybe it would be better to use a jig saw because there is a slight constant bend in the cut to follow the contour of the boat

    the build has begun

the board, is about as thick as i could go, as you can see i had to sand two notches in there just to be able to mount my motor to the back! it's really just there for the extra extra support but let me tell you...that thing is SOLID. as far as the handles go, right now i'm only using them to...

    the build has begun

started work on my 16 foot flat bottom. started out with the back transom, unfortunetly the way it was made, the back braces were welded to the transom, there was literally no way to get one solid peice of board, all the way across behind it, ended up using two pieces of 2X6 and two 2x4's with a...

got my boat! another rebuild about to start!

so i pulled the boat off the trailer today and pressure washed it. the boat cleaned up really well. also bought a 1970 evinrude 9.5 pancake motor that was freshly rebuilt for 400 bucks. that thing runs great! so i'm FINALLY ready to start planning for decking. so my questions for now are: 1...

    what steps did you take?

well in that case, i don't really care much if it stays black, maybe i'll try what you suggested or maybe i'll just leave it black :)
  19. M

    what steps did you take?

well the boat looks like it has a somewhat newer coating under the waterline (thick black stuff, looks like it works as an extra sealer) i will NOT remove that, if anything i'll just paint over it, would i be ok painting over it?
