Yamaha F70 dies while on step

Thank you guys for the replies. As for the history, the motor does not sit up for long. Typically runs 10 to 11months of the year, mostly in fresh water. It has roughly 225 hours on it total. The problem started up shortly before November of this past year and has progressively gotten worse...

Yamaha F70 dies while on step

I have a problem with a 2013 yamaha F70. The motor starts and idles fine it will push the boat slowly without any issues. The problem kicks in when running on step. The motor will shut down while at speed but will crank immediately back up once in neutral. The process will repeat. I do notice...

    Lowrance Elite TI outboard interface

Howdy all I am hoping the experts on this forum may be able to help with a couple of questions. I am looking to upgrade my sonar the Lowrance Elite 9 TI. Besides jumping light years ahead of the current gps chart plotter that I have, I am really interested in the interface capability that it...

    Boat Names

I bought my 1860 cc seaark used and decided to mod it a little after owning it for a while. When taking the cc off the boat i found a hidden sticker that read "Property of North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission". A little research found that it was a retired wildlife boat. She is now...

My Grandfathers 1966 Johnson 9.5 hand me down-hand me down.

I currently ruin a 1966 Evinrude 9.5 which is the same thing as you're Johnson just with a different paint his and stickers. The web site for Leroys ramblings that was posted for you by someone else will tell you almost anything you need to know about repairs to the motor. If in good shape and...

    camo painting with stencil?

Go to the dollar store and buy three or four of the plastic place mats for kids to eat on. Print the stencils that you want from the internet or draw your own. Use an exacto knife or other razor blade to cut the shape out of the mat. You now have a homemade stencil kit that can be used many times.

    1966 9.5hp Johnson

I have a 66 evinrude 9.5. It's identical to your Johnson. I have been through the lower and replaced the seals. New water pump. New gaskets in the carb and the old fuel pump still works. If your motor is firing but not starting, check the angle of the float arm in the carb. It has to be adjusted...

Talk me out of a new engine... New 4 stroke vs a Rebuild.

Rebuild it. That's what I would do, but in my thoughts, I'll do almost anything to save a dollar in the long run. I am running a 1997 60hp mercury on my Seaark and a 1966 9.5hp evinrude on my small boat, so older outboard don't always mean it's a bad one.

    Outboard Spontaneously trims self up??????

I was able to trace the problem to a bad relay on the trim system. The up relay had developed a short some how and vibration would cause it to activate and trim up. $20 for a new relay and the problem is fixed.

What do you do for a living? or Fun (boating not allowed)

I don't post often but it has been interesting reading what a lot of you folks do to expense your boating addictions. I am a member of a few forums and find the wide diversity of members interesting. Personally I would love to spend time with the family, hunt, fish and lead others into a life...

    Outboard Spontaneously trims self up??????

I had a short minute to pop the cowling off this morning. I don't immediately see any chafing of the wires. There is a lot of oil that has accumulated under (which is a new issue) there and some moisture. That may be the problem. I am going to try to clean it up a little and let it dry out.

    Outboard Spontaneously trims self up??????

Unfortunately it is powering up. When it goes up, it is very evident as the motor will rev when it goes up. After throttling down, the motor continues to trim up and the trim motor is audible. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Outboard Spontaneously trims self up??????

Hey all. I have weird problem with my outboard that I hope someone can shine some light on. I was cruising down the lake this afternoon and the outboard decides to spontaneously trim it self up. I was able to stop the upward motion as long as I held a finger on the down tilt switch on the...

    1965 Evinrude 9.5 New Member

I took her out this morning for the first extended run and she pushes my 12x36 flat bottom at about 18mph. I still need to play with the tilt adjustment and weight placement in the boat for fine tuning. I have the motor jacked up about 3 inches off the top of the transom to reduce drag from...

    1965 Evinrude 9.5 New Member

The prop on that motor has a shear pin in it. If you take the black cone shaped nut off the prop shaft, then pull the prop straight off the shaft. You will see a small metal pin through the prop shaft. If it is broken, it is easily replaced and is supposed to break if the prop binds on...

You may also have to adjust the idle screw a little (the adjustment knob on the left of the motor). I hope you can get it running. Test ran my 66' 9.5 today. It was the first time in 15 years the motor had pushed a boat. Had my little 12 ft flat bottom up on step and running fast at only 1/2...

    1965 Evinrude 9.5 New Member

Coached, I don't post often but your thread really sparked a note. I just purchased a 1966 9.5 rude that I am refurbishing. The guy sold it to me saying that it hasn't run in about 15 years. I got it running like a sewing machine and am now replacing the seals in the gearcase. I highly suggest...
