Ive been lurking on this forum for several months. Thought that I would share my progress restoring a Sears 1432 Jon Boat. After agonizing over painting options I finally decided to follow Johnny's advice. "Paint it as per the paint manufacturer's instructions and get her in the water". I used Rustoleum products because of their availability.

Please keep us posted on how the self-etching primer and top coat hold up over time. I will eventually need to paint my hull (currently naked Al). The consensus best method for painting aluminum is to use zinc chromate primer, but the toxicity of that paint is a negative. I'm considering the Rustoleum self-etching primer or the Wearlon Wetlander products a alternatives. Thanks.
