My first time using the 3M Bristle Disk in a 4" angle grinder.
it removes paint very quickly without melting and gumming up.
much more efficient and faster than the standard rotary wire brush.
very impressed with it.
- but -
SAFETY WARNING
the bristles break off and they HURT when hitting bare skin !!!!
can only imagine what it would do to the naked eye.
gloves and safety glasses must be worn while using this item.
do not let bystanders stand too close - they too could suffer eye damage.
I am thinking that grinding into sharp corners or across edges of metal
facilitates the breaking bristles. it doesn't matter what causes it,
just observe the necessary safety precautions to prevent injury.
the eye you save could be your own !!!
UPDATE: wow - very disappointed in this product after using it
this afternoon. . . . . only used it on the boat bottom flat surfaces and
within 7 feet on one side only, the bristles wore down to 1/4" and when
the bristles break off, the pain goes right through gloves and pants.
at $25.00 for one disk - this is the most expensive method for removing paint.
I am guessing it would take at least another 6-8 disks to remove 5 layers of paint.
it may be fine for one coat of paint - or sprucing up bare aluminum.
it starts off with amazing results !!! then goes down hill rapidly after 5 minutes of use.
I will be using paint remover and the random orbit sander to finish the job.
