How is this anchor supposed to be rigged? I'm used to a chunk of lead dropped to the bottom. Not these types...

Thanks,

Put a piece of chain on that sliding loop then your anchor line on the other end of chain. If it gets stuck or buried in the bottom you pull straight up on it to slide that ring towards the heavy end of the anchor. That will lift it straight up and out. The chain will keep it pointed down so it will dig in when you are setting it. They work well.

You want to use an anchor chain - at least 3-5 ft but longer is better

Not sure on the size of your boat but almost impossible to go too heavy with the chain - the chain is needed to keep the chines down so the get "bite" into the bottom

Be careful using that in very rocky bottom as it can and will get snagged up

If that happens drive over it and try to reverse the entire anchor using the boat to pull it out the other way

That's it. A anchor with a chain like that will hold better than an anchor twice the size without one. They are designed to be used with one but you don't always see the chain being used.

Best anchor you can buy IMO. These anchors will hold large boats in place and don't weigh a ton. Like others have said use a 3-5ft peace of chain, it help slide the ring back and forth.

I kind of get the chain and sliding loop concept. But why is there another hole in the end of the long bar? I've seen some anchors rigged with zip ties that break away when the anchor is snagged to let it pull free. I'm still a little confused.

If you are using an anchor locker and bow deploy that is where you hook the safety

The chain end goes on the ring so you can retrieve the anchor and pull it out of the rocks. The zip keeps the chain lined up towards the end to make it easy to set. Some tie a marker buey or separate retrieval line to the ring and the chain to the end. The end is the best place for the chain so zip it when you throw it out if the thing is not setting. When you pull it up the zip breaks, the chain and ring slide up the anchor for retrieval. In wind and current it can be hard to get the anchor to dig in. The zip just keeps it lined up so it has the best chance to bite. It's not always easy to get an anchor to dig in on the first try. Some even add a 10' line between the ring and the line going to the boat and put a small float on it. This float helps it sink and set in the right orientation. Believe it or not somtimes you have to pull up and throw the anchor out 3 times to get it set in the wind or current. The extra float or zip just help you get it to set on the first try.
