Carpeting Storage

How much space do you usually leave for a gap on the hatch for storage so that the carpet will fit flush??

it really depends on the carpet, but most times it's about 1/4 inch. the best thing to do is to cut them just like they are still 1 board, put a piece of carpet on both lids (not stapled or anything) and see how it fits... but it's better to make more smaller cuts than 1 big cut and be off... you want them to fit pretty tight just so they stay down
